I went out and rode the Northern section of ONF today, man they're clearing a lot of tree's out there, the logging roads were fun to ride.

There's a lot of ruts to negotiate

Rutted whooped single trail isn't fun on a KTM 690

Thousands of acres clear cut

We have been told repeatedly by the Air Force and Blackwater state guys the we MUST stay on roads and not venture into woods. This is to preserve habitat for wildlife.

Now they are clear cutting thousands of acres pretty much everywhere.

I guess that old saying is true. Money cuts down trees... Or something like that

Us offroad enthusiasts lack the political power ($$$) of the lumber industry or environmentalist lobby. We will continue to lose ground.

All we can do is ride while we still can where we still can. After that, some will thumb their nose at "the man" and hope they don't get caught. Most will just
hang up thier spurs.

Well, it is a forest after all. And as such, it does need to be managed. Part of the cycle of a managed forest is to cut the trees down for lumber and other products. They usually plant more trees in the clear cut areas to start the cycle all over again. It may take a while for it to grow back.

I understand the logging and forest maintenance and all. Logging and burning are all part of the program, BUT why all this keep out and don't ride the area based on wildlife preservation and then wacco !

I just hate to see all those woods go away without my riding it first!

Ride it while you can, it may not be there in the future.

Look at the Tellico ORV area, it's closed to everyone.

Because it's hard to get the logging equipment in around all the discarded boats, washing machines, hot water heaters, and piles of trash. People in general SUCK Vic. Not all people, but enough to screw the rest of us.

Talking Howdy from P-cola

Greetings and salutations all,

Just a quick introduction, I've always been a Honda guy since my first bike back in 1983, an XR200. My off-road racing experience includes a 200X three wheel, then back to dirt bikes with a 1991 XR250R and a 1995 XR600R racing enduro and hare-scrambles in the SERA Series with the Louisiana Trail Riders. I also had a 1993 XR650L that I had a lot of fun with.. If you're not racing, there's nothing like riding your bike from the house to the trail and back again.

Fast forward a bunch of years and I found myself looking at another XR650L. While I loved that bike back 20 years ago, and probably still would, I decided to go with the smaller dual sport CRF250L which we just brought home yesterday along with her own CRF50, so I can begin sharing the off-road experience with my 6 year old daughter.

Maybe in a few years when she's got some riding experience under her belt, we'll be racing together, and I'll get back on my big bore thumper, but until then I'll be very happy following her dust trail on the 250.

Anyway, enough for now. I hope to see some folks from here on the trails.
Boomer

I saw ALOT of this here in FL over the years. I never noticed it much when I lived in N GA.

I don't know why, less population maybe?
