Pikes Peak Int'l Hillclimb Competitors List

I'm listed. I'm in. Hope to show up, not embarass myself, finish, and possibly not be 10th out of 10 in my class. Rest is up to chance. If nothing else, I get to see a lot of nice race rigs and scenery.

See bold below

PM me if you need a garage while you're in town, and I've got some friends who race it every year who might be able to help you with setup advice.

Can't speak for this year, but there's typically about 30 minutes somewhere devoted mostly to cars.

It's too bad, because it's a freakin' fantastic race, both to participate in and to spectate.

I will PM you with my contact info. Had several nice offers of food, etc. Thanks for the use of garage space. How close are you to the bottom of Pikes? May wanna' grab some grub and knock back a cold one. Nice to see where the locals eat.

Barry

*EDIT*

Duh, you are in Colorado Springs, right there. Nice. I'll pm you my contact info, yell at your convenience. We'll talk setup. Thanks again.....

I keep meaning to attend as a spectator.
Chuck Lee is a friend and mechanic from home town. He's been on the podium a bunch of times for the 250 class.

Looks like Team Lee has two entries.

Good Luck, Barry.

I think they paved more of the route before last years running, which is why most came in better times than 2005.

Am I the only one thinking helmet cam coverage would be awesome?

Good luck in the race , I've only ever read about it, never seen any video coverage, car or otherwise

If I'm not pressed, I may borrow a helmet cam and just tape the practice runs and race. If I'm pressed, I won't worry about it. Would be priceless to have though, I agree.

I don't think they allow helmet cams because the TV people own all the video rights. You could probably get away with it in the practice runs. Here's some of our officially approved helmet cam video from 2003: http://www.hogwildracing.com/video/V...lClimb2003.wmv

Great video thanx for sharing, just wondering what level of brain damage a guy needs before he's ready to be the sidecar monkey??

I'm pretty sure that #8 250cc rider is the same Mark Miller who's part of the VW Toureg Dakar team. He's an excellent bike racer and a Pike's Peak veteran, expect a good performance.

Good luck Barry, we'll be pulling for you!

Thats my friend from work. Hope he does well this year. He crashed in practice last year and was out for a while. Good luck to all the racers!
It is a fun spectator race. Except when weather(snow) moves in and your 5 miles from shelter! They moved into July this year. Maybe it wont snow up top !

He some testing footage from last year. Man those guys hall ars!

http://youtube.com/watch?v=hiUudT0OYgg

Team MAX BMW

This just in....

Team MAX BMW Takes on Pike's Peak

On July 12th, two New England BMW riders are venturing to central Colorado to compete in the Pike's Peak International Hill Climb, the premier motorsports hill climb event in the world. Gordon Mullavey of Berwick, ME will pilot a BMW HP2 over a windy 12.4 mile course that finishes at an altitude of 14,110 feet, atop Pike's Peak. Max Stratton of Portsmouth, NH will provide mechanical and pit support for Mullavey, paying close attention the effects of altitude on the rider and the machine.

Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is the world''s highest auto race and one of the most grueling events in all of motor racing. The start line at 9,400 feet is high enough to leave anyone short of breath. And the climb to the towering 14,110 foot finish punishes drivers, riders, and their vehicles. As the drivers climb toward the summit, the thin air slows reflexes and saps muscle strength - plus it robs engines of 30% of their power at the summit. So competitors and vehicles must be in top shape simply to finish, let alone win.

Mullavey, 36 is a long-time BMW motorcycle rider and a champion off-road racer. Pike's Peak will be his first hill climb. Stratton, 34, is an accomplished hill climber, though he is more accustomed to taking the uphill challenge on four wheels instead of two. Both believe that their combined experience will result in a successful attempt on the mountain. The HP2 that Mullavey will pilot is street-legal and only slightly modified from the showroom, with upgraded race suspension and special wide tires to handle the variable surface of the Pike's Peak Highway.

The course is a twisty sprint of 12.4 miles. With turns and a course that turns to gravel halfway up, the riders will get a tremendous workout. Although every corner in the race deserves full respect, the one named "Bottomless Pit" gets top billing as the one not to miss. No one has ever missed that corner, which would result in a 6,000 foot drop. The fastest riders will complete the course in about 12 minutes, or at an average speed of 60 mph.

Just how fast Mullavey and will be able to cover the distance has yet to be seen. The team will have three days of practice runs prior to the race on Saturday, July 21 and they will be posting daily reports on www.maxbmwmotorcycles.com.
