While I am posting pics here it is in Sumo trim. The SM wheels are a blast commuting, though my SM riding skills are poor at best.

Here is the deal.........got the DRZ together, went on a great gravel road ride, was headed to some farm two track and.......................................

The tranny quit shifting up

Clutch is working fine....

Shifted down each gear real easy...........

No shifty back up.................

Any ideas......................

How much$$$$$$$$$$$$

I called the PO and he is a great guy, he said he would trade me back and pay me for all the work I did on it............I really do not think that is fair to him.............

I would like to get her fixed and keep her........after all, he bought it from me in the first place

UMMM....sounds spendy to me.

Maybe a running 525 is better than a dead DRZ eh?

I've got one on my e-model and I think it's a real good product/value for the $. It's been on the bike for 2 years now and it's worked flawlessly. You can calibrate the unit for the correct speed by pushing a few buttons. I've calibrated mine to my gps's speed. Can't get anymore accurate than that.

Southfork In regards to your shifting up issue. I had the same thing happen once after I dropped my bike trail riding. The shifter was contacting the stator cover. It was not real obvious that I had bent the shifter. The bike shifted down just not up.

This probably is a long shot for your issue but worth a look. It sure was cheap to fix for me.

Excuse me guys, I am a lurker on the DRZ thread...

southfork, cool the PO was willing to step up like that and cool that you didn't take him up on the offer.
Have you tried warming the bike up in your driveway, shutting it off and trying to shift the bike thru the gears. you may get a better feel for what is going on using your hand to shift upwards over using your foot while the bike is moving.
Not sure what you can do once you have done the above but it may tell you something...

John

I added case guards and my bike wouldn't shift up too. Confused the *#&#& out of me. Then I realized, I had to move the shifter a bit outboard. Then all was right.

Thanks,
The PO and I tore into it this afternoon...............shifting drums, forks, etc...all look great......except the piece of either third or fourth gear that broke off and wedged itself behind the shifting fork so that you could not shift up

Motor is coming out, case is going to be split and then we can really assess the damage.

The PO and I are going to work on it together and see where the chips fall, meanwhile he is going to let me race my old Katoom at the end of the month if the DRZ is not back together.

Anywho.............I am REALLY getting to know about the DRZ ......and so is he

by the way the PO is a lurker on this sight and is a very good friend of mine, neither one of us would let a bike or $$ wreck our friendship, I would give him my Katoom before I would let that happen, and he'd do the same

Sounds like something simple to me. Maybe a bent shifter?

EDIT : everyone beat me to it

That said, where is the DRZ must do mods?

Hello all lads here...
My first post in this thread and maybe of topic...
But...
I bought a second hand CCM 404 (it has the same engine with the drz's) with an Athena 434 kit.
The engine is in the 'running in' period with about 350 kms
and waiting to reach 500 kms for WOT riding...
Putting my finger in the back of the exhaust i noticed an oily kind of film.

Is it possible that the engine is burning oil or is it normal being in the running in period?
By the way there is blue smoke on warm up and in overnight period.

Thanx anyway

Good luck on getting that transmission goin. Sounds like a late night . I know transmissions take up a lot of counter space. By the way, would ya mind taking a couple of photos of the transmission all layed out on the counter and post them? Pictures like that are interesting to look at .

This is nice to hear. We all want friends like that and we should be friends like that.

Like another posted, please post pics. You never know who it might help.
