I've recently purchased a used DRZ engine that supposedly only has 650miles on it. I just received it today and the first thing I did was check the valve clearance. The right intake is reading .10mm (the minimum clearance) the rest are right in the middle. I'm also hearing an odd tap noise just before it's at TDC, (about inch of travel before the TDC line on the flywheel)... I've also noticed the spark plug has a lot of fouling on it...

From the looks of the engine i believe it's got very low miles. theres no obvious wear on it, no scratches and it still has the original front sprocket.

Any thoughts on this?

Just got my Hot Cams installed, man what nice power gain, gets up to speed quicker, pulls much harder, and front wheel comes off the ground with ease in first gear, really glad i did this.

Took the bike on the freeway right after install, hit 97mph, so to all of those who say they take away from the top speed, they certainly do not, i feel power gains all through out,

Want to say a big thank you jawknee21 from ThumperTalk, and rode over here to help me with the install, also showed me how to check and adjust the valves.

Thanks bud.

Got to ride his bike for a bit, its got the SSW 50HP package (big bore kit, fcr carb, hot cams and MRD/SSW), Now that is one fast bike!!

To anyone out there considering doing this, go for it, worth every penny IMHO.

i do understand , very well.

the bmw has a narrow rear wheel . the stock tire size is 4.00 (with 8mm clearance to swing arm)
my bmw has a k761 on it now with a shinko 705 up front and it works very well !

so i plan at some point in the future to use the same sort of set up on my drz

i do agree wider wheels would be better, but poor people got poor ways

Anyone done a rally on a DRZ or know of any good links that show a DRZ being prepped for a rally?

I am switching back to my street wheel which is geared with a 44 tooth rear and 15tooth cs. This is the street combo I use for commuting.
Thanks, I'm running 13/44 and it's screeming @ 65mph. Tops out about 84mph. But I'm always in search of a lower gear for the trails and picking my way through rock gardens and rocky steps and ledges. Once stopped on steep rocky hills, getting started again isn't happening, so i need a lower 1st gear, sure would like a higher 5th, but the lower 1st is much more important.

This one is only in a 130

This one is available in a 120
I have new rubber on my Z, Motoz Tractionator i/t 120 rear and Pirelli XCMS front ready for a test ride this Sunday, i'll let u know on monday how it works, i didn't want to go with the 130 it'll hard to turn (the wider the tire the more harder to turn it) 130's and 140's are usualy the preferred tire size for long rallies (Dakar, Pharaohs Rally, Northen Sahara Rally or the like). But i got a good feedback bout the Tractionator i/t from Baja riders :" they like it"...
