FMF Powercore to Q4 - Rejet Needed?

Hey Guys,

I recently swapped my old FMF Powercore4 (pre decibel rating requirement pipe) for a new FMF Q4. The bike has historically ran great with the Powercore4 but it was simply too loud for me on long rides (not that the Q4 is all that quiet either..).

I've started to notice that my idle seems a tad lower and that the choke (cold start enrichment) doesn't seem to have as much effect/change as before - ie the the choke idle isn't much higher than regular idle. Occasionally when I come off throttle after a long full throttle section (highway exit ramp for instance) the motor dies (carb related). It's hard to explain but it kind of "feels" fat/rich. I might be off with that diagnosis - hence why I'm asking for advice/opinions.

I know I can tinker with the idle adjustment and I will be cleaning/replacing the idle jet soon. My question is whether switching from a wide open pipe like the old Powercore (FMF said it's over 100db and a very free flowing pipe) to the Q4 could require a rejet? Complicating things is that I want to install a 1 1/8ths inch FMF insert to quiet the Q4 down further.

Any links to rebuild kits/parts? It's time for a refresh on my beloved DRZ-E as it is getting a little long in the tooth.

Thanks for your advice, I want my ol DRZ to be back and running strong once again!

On the subject of lights. I'm running the Edge tail-light turn signal combo. If they are not mounted too tight, the pivot just fine. I've had my share of downs and they are still holding in there.

I'm looking for a fender eliminator for my new DRZ SM. Saw this recommended on supermoto junkie.

Still the hip way to go? Their post was a little old. Anyone have experience with them? Bolt right up and go?

A couple of pics from my "East TN Tag-O-Rama" ride. Thought they might fit in here.

Plus 1. I have one and it was the best buy I made. Less weight and service free.

Seems pretty straight forward to me.
I have a difference in opinion on replacing the flasher. I swapped out front and back to LEDs and did NOT replace the stock flasher. Yes it does flash faster but I had an observation. Stock bike blinkers are not all that visible. They seem to get washed out especially when other vehicles are around. The LEDs with a slightly faster blink are completely out of sync with other vehicles and stand out more. JMHO

In Australia we have ADR's, australian design rules, and if vehicles don't meet them they are considered unroadworthy or not registerable, might be worth checking your country/state, you might not care and that's ok but at least you'll know if you are outside of them.

Obviously these dont apply to you But here's an extract from Aus

AUSTRALIAN VEHICLE STANDARDS RULES - REG 104

Operation and visibility of direction indicator lights
(1) A direction indicator light fitted to a motor vehicle must:

(a) when operating, display regular flashes of light at a rate of not over 120, and:

(i) for a motor vehicle with 4 or more wheels at least 60, flashes a minute; and

(ii) for another motor vehicle at least 45, flashes a minute; and

(b) be able to be operated by a person in the normal driving position; and

(c) be wired to an audible or visible device in the vehicle that tells the driver that the direction indicator light is operating; and

(d) flash at the same time and rate as any other direction indicator lights fitted on the same side of the vehicle.

(2) A direction indicator light fitted to a side of a trailer must, when operating, flash at the same time and rate as the direction indicator light or lights fitted to the same side of the motor vehicle towing the trailer.

(3) The flashes of light displayed by a direction indicator light must be:

(a) if the light faces forwards white or yellow; and

(b) if the light faces backwards:

We have similar "rules" but typically Americans don't give a fuck....

Had some charging system issues today.

I have a voltmeter on the bike, I'm hoping some others do as well.

Basically, when I fired it up, I was at 12.5v, then it just kept declining throughout the ride.

Does anyone else run a voltmeter? What does yours typically read when at highway speed?
