I'm shopping for a mountain bike after a 10 year layoff and to my surprise most of them have hydraulic brakes now.

Yeah, they are pretty impressive, but if you don't need that kind of performance look at the Avid cable disc brakes, they're pretty good too and not to expensive. BTW- hard tails climb better than full suspension bikes and are lighter. Most people don't need full suspension, so look at what terrain you'll be hitting before jumping on the full suspension band wagon.

I don't know about the DRZ specifically, but I recall reading that most bikes these days have teflon-lined cable housings and therefore do not require lubrication - in fact, the mfgs say you should NOT lube a teflon-lined cable as it deteriorates the lining and attracts grit. If it becomes sticky (which it shouldn't over a reasonable life-span), replace.

New Drz 400 Plastics_Re-Paint?

So I Just got a used 04 400s - Sadly I'm really not a big fan of the yellow - and was interested in picking up some new black acerbis plastics - I realized the acerbis don't come with a headlight shroud or a black tail piece - and I could not find those parts anywhere else.

Does anyone have suggestions on where to pick those up? or if you have any good experience painting the plastics?

Thanks

I've been getting NGK plugs at Advance Auto Parts, at reasonable prices. They must have no idea what Moto Dealers charge for them....

I thought about luggage long and hard, and decided to go with the Ebay top fender rack and Giant Loop Coyote.

I'm the same way.

I just bought a new headlight.

If you want to pain, Krylon Fusion does an OK job. Plan on frequent touch ups to cover the nicks.

I recently purchased this for $108.00 on sale and only had to cut small tabs on rear fender to fit my S in black. No headlight nacele included however, I had a coupon with Bike bandit and got a black one from them for $30.00. http://www.chaparral-racing.com/Prod...UKI&model=DR-Z 400E

Sorry to bother but would you know what part specifically you got from bike bandit? Thanks for the tip on the mods to the acerbis parts.

OK thanks and all the others who input on this subject, I think I can get them from Canadian Tire for about $4 or so and 7 for IX ones

Engine Dying after a cold night highway run

I commute on my 04 DRZ400S, and I get off at midnight. My bike has been pretty reliable for the most part, though it hiccups in the cold a bit. once in a while we get a frost if it is a clear night. Last night was one of those, it was about +3 Celcius. I start up my engine, it takes a bit longer than usual for the idle to level off near freezing of course. I warm it up for about 3 minutes, then hit the road. I go about 15 km down the highway, just fine. and at the first stop light, it stalls! This has happened the odd few times, and its always a bit tough starting up again, though I haven't failed to re-start yet luckilly.

What would cause my engine to do this? not enough warm up? Carb vacuum line iced up? running regular fuel in the cold?

Could it be a low battery? I've been watching it closely, and I am about to replace my stator because it's grounding, though it puts out lots of AC current.....Just another WTF moment....any clues???
