Help out this amazing individual if you have the opportunity
I had the pleasure of meeting and spending some time with a very amazing individual the past couple days. Her name is Makiko Sugino from Japan. She has been traveling solo around the world on her motorcycle continuously for the past five years. She has logged over 250,000 miles on this trip and is still going. She has toured every continent, most countries, and has been hospitilized three times due to accidents, and yet she still keeps going. As of May 8th, she is in the South West U.S. and is now headed through Texas to Key West then up the Eastern Seaboard, across Canada to Alaska, then back down to California. She is riding a black and blue Yamaha 250 with haphazard luggage, she is pretty easy to spot as I don't think she ever goes over 40mph. Keep an eye out for her over this summer, she told me this final portion of her journey will take four months. Unlikely she will actually need any assistance, but it is always nice to be offered. She has a budget of about $10 per day so hotels and hot meals are usually out of the question for her. So if nothing else, a warm meal would probably be much appreciated and she will re-pay you with some of the most amazing travel tales you have ever heard. She is truly an amazing individual. If nothing else, give her a wave and a thumbs up. She deserves it. Here is a picture of her with my son, he thought she was the greatest thing in the world. I couldn't really disagree.

Does she have a site or anything to follow her journey?

She has no site that I am aware of. I actually tried to talk her into writing a book but unfortunately she seems to have little interest in self-promotion. It's too bad because it would make one hell of a great story. Fortunately, she has kept daily journals and has over 6000 photos, so maybe if I keep bugging her about it she may give in. By the way, does anybody have any connections to a publishing company that may be interested in her story? Maybe if I could hook her up with somebody that could actually make it a reality that might spark her interest.

Wow, I will keep an eye out, thanks.
I hope she survives the US, especially as she heads up east at 40 mph. |

Coastal roads

Actually there are quite a few coastal roads that her 40 mph pace will blend in quite well. Did you tell her about the tent space list here? Is she going to log on here? Or are you going to let us know where she is and when she will be in a certain area? how does a person let her know they have accomodations for her? |

Now that gal's a real rider!! She deserves an ADV sticker and a "hot and a cot", from any fellow ADV rider that sees her on the road. She's special.

She left my house two days ago and I am still in awe. This is truly an amazing person in every respect. I feel very priveledged to have met her and heard her tales. She told me she worked seven days a week for two years and managed to saved up $33,000 to do this five year trip.
I spent about a day and a half with her helping her fix her bike and donating some travel items to her cause. I feel like I got a lot more out of it then she did just from the inspiration she gave me. She is also a lot of fun, don't be afraid to offer her a cold beer or a some American Whiskey. If any of you guys meet her, post it here. I would love to hear how she is doing. She is my new hero. |

This deserves a sticky, just so folks can keep an eye out since there is nothing in ride reports. Gutsy lady.
