This light house is over 100 years old.
It served the Mendecino coast for many many years until it became obsolete and evenually abandoned, that is until it was "saved," diassembled and placed over 100 miles South to its present location at Shelter Cove and is under restoration to remove over 80 years of rust and neglect.
ALL by volunteers that appreciate and respect these beautiful lighthouses of days long gone.

I shook this man's hand and thanked him for his volunteer efforts. He was appreciative of my gesture.

And since this is a Bike and Lighthouse thread....here is my bike on the lawn at the cliff at Shelter Cove....unfortunately the light house is not in the shot....it's behind.

This is a COOL thread~!

Tom, that lighthouse is really interesting to me for its short stature, ours tend to be taller.

This one is on Cape Race at the southern tip of the Avalon Peninsula yesterday. 5 kilometers north it was 10ºC warmer and clear, a lot nicer riding than riding the 20km along the shoreline in the fog.

I have no doubt that you'll find a way to bounce that 640 ADV up the mountain, once you get some decent off road rubber on her.

Thanks, I think thats the best photo I've ever taken of it, it's unedited or cropped too, just as taken and shrunk to fit here.

The bike would have only just fit between the rails at this end of the boardwalk, and the other end ended in stairs with minimal turning space, you ever tried to turn a Ducati round in a tight space? it takes a 12 point turn in my garage just to get it pointing the other way.

That's the Milwaukee breakwater lighthouse on Lake Michigan in the distance. My adventure bike for the day had pedals.

Situated just off Surf Highway, Taranaki, New Zealand. Taken last weekend, I am still running the bike in so wasn't going to let the rain stop me!

Surf Highway follows the coast in Taranaki, this province is well known for all the Dairy Farms and also the gas and oil wells. There are lots of fantastic surf beaches off the highway, the best is about 1 kilometre north of this light house.
