Back to highway 69 and a more road and some uneventful offroad miles to Helena for lunch. Then I let the GPS route me to Marysville ghost town.

Blink and you'll blow right by Marysville.

One of the mines that put Marysville on the map.

The nice thing about Marysville, is that my GPS showed roads leaving town in every direction. Let's see if I can find one that will take me towards my next destination, Rimini.

Unbelievable!

I like road signs. Mullan Pass is on my paper map, we should go that way.

Looking back the way I had come.

The road ran through this long woods section.

And then back into the open.

Route 12, 8 miles. I should go that way.

I took the Priest Pass turnoff, which should run me right towards Rimini. Riding along, I caught a glimpse of a scenic overlook. Left on a short trail and a little hiking and I was there. KTM resting on tree.

The view.

It wasn't long before the dirt road widened out and, boom, I was at route 12, right across the street from Rimini Road. Dirt, flat, straight, lightspeed. 6 miles later I was in Rimini.

If you've never been to Rimini, I recommend that you keep it that way. There are a whole bunch of people living there and it's all private, so keep out and no trespassing signs everywhere. I continued through town to see if I could loop out instead of running back.

The road ran up and up for miles and miles and finally at 7500 feet, there's a lake!

Road mile markers count down to zero. What would you think is at zero??

But there was another option.

I did run down this road for a bit, but I was off the map, and it was getting late and hot. I was ready to call it a day, so back I went.

I stopped at this stream and sluice on the way back down.

I spotted this 1200 GSA along the side of route 12. I had to stop to see if he was an ADVRider. He sure is!! Mike from Toronto, on his way back from Alaska!! He had just come through Glacier National Park, and said it was awesome! That's what everyone keeps telling us. I can't wait to get there at the end of the month.

Hi Mike!! Stay off the Meth will ya!!

Down the road a ways from Mike, I spot this pickup truck running down the railroad tracks. I've done that on my bike, but never in my truck.

I returned to camp about 4:00PM. 260+ miles for today. 101 degrees at the camper, in the shade. Whatever I laid on the picnic table in the sun, was too hot to touch after only a couple of minutes. Good news, that new front tire worked much better than I had expected. Although I didn't give it the mud test, and that's quite alright.

Map from today.

Elevation profile.

Next stop is YELLOWSTONE. I know I have a lot of hiking lined up. I'll have to get busy on some riding loops. Suggestions are welcomed!

Great report Terry - keep up the fantastic photos and have a wonderful trip. I'm going to go see if I can channel this jealousy into something more useful...

Yellowstone National Park

We pulled into West Yellowstone, Montana, this past Sunday for a two week stint at Yellowstone NP.

Yesterday, the wife wasn't feeling too well, so I capitalized on the downtime opportunity to perform some service.

Standard oil change.

The clutch was feeling a little grabby from time to time. The KTM shop tech in Missoula suggested pulling the plates and giving them a good oil soak. They were too busy to squeeze me in there [thanks Big Sky KTM, NOT], so I took it upon myself to do an inspection and oil soak.

The inspection revealed, nothing. Everything looked fine. Friction plates ok, steel plates ok, all the basket oil passages were clean. I soaked the friction plates and reinstalled.

I also pulled the front brake pads and gave them a good cleaning. That leaky front fork spewed some oil on the left side pads.

A quick test ride and everything is good to go. We'll see after the next 200 mile ride.
