I can only think of six; five of them are on the (blue) fender support. The sixth is a bolt that goes thru the fender, into the frame, near the back of the airbox. It's visible if you stick your head between the fender and the top of the rear tire. I wouldn't recommend strapping luggage to that fender support. It really isn't much of a perch. I bought a Borrego rack (from New Enough) for my DR350SE. The fabriactor (Tom) is a forum member. It fits pretty well and will provide a nice platform.

Or should I just upgrade the bulb?
There are a couple of decent dual sport kits that seem to have a good headlight. However, IMO they look like something that fell off of a flying saucer. I believe there is an HID bulb that will work. Some of the guys over at Maximum-Suzuki have tried that. Honestly, I think my stock headlight is pretty good, when properly adjusted. YMMV (and obviously has ).

PM me if you don't have that reinforcement bar. I've got in in my pile of take offs and I would be willing to give you a good deal on it.

Any of the 55wt aftermarket lights with glass lenses (i.e. dot approved) will provide decent lighting.

Intro:

I have a DR-350s, a 1993 model. Nice bike. Lotsa miles, though: 52,000 last time I looked. It gets pressed into active duty as a spare bike as needed, although for several years it was the ultimate commuter bike.

Not much to tell. Mostly stock. Staintune muffler. Tired engine. I mean to freshen it up, add a decent shock and skidplate, but other projects keep getting in the way.

Sweet, Doug! What sort of commuting did you do on it? That's a pile o' miles on a single cylinder bike! Just keep 'er runnin'....maybe she'll hit 60K before you have to dig into it.

Valve question

How often should the valves be checked on a DR350SE? I have put about 3k-4k on mine since I got it and have never had them checked. The bike runs great, if that means anything. If they needed adjusted would I be able to tell? The bike has about 5'500 miles total on it.

Hey FFs,
I am going to look at a DR350 in the AM, '97 with 11,000 miles.
Anything in particular I need to pay special attention to?

Muchas Gracias!

There's nothing unique to the DR to check out really. If the suspension has had work done that's a plus as it could use it and might save you the trouble.

Do note that in '97 they had a dirt only DR350 and a dual sport DR350SE. Depending on what you want to do with the bike this could make a big difference.

have fun

Anyone have any of the stock handguards (the ones that are plastic only) that they wish to be charitable with to help a poor brother out this winter?

My hands are freezing and I think these would help block some of the wind.

And do the stock DR650 handguards work?

thanks!

Aftermarket ones hold up much better I've used Cycra and FMF and Moose with good luck - always the type with the aluminum bar and plastic wind deflector that attaches to the aluminum bit.

Here's the setup on my 250 (moose aluminum bars I think, with plastic deflectors of them - not sure what brand, but I think Maier and a few other places do them)

I'm also running heated grips which is quite nice:)

My CR with Cycra's. The cycras are nice in that they have a little bend on the end that gives you a bit more hand room.

You can see the bend in this pic
