i sold my 91 (above) to my buddy for what i paid for it...$850. just to get him into a dual sport ( so he could see what he was missin, and give me someone else to ride with) he had no clue what he had, or the deal i gave him. i appreciate the bike for what it is... so when he was showin frustration, i knew he would sell it...and i wanted it back. i flashed the cash...and it was a done deal.
i will sell the 1000 strom before i sell the little dr! awesome machine!!!

I am, probably, very soon to be REjoining the ranks of the DR350 crowd, but I have two quick questions.

Does anyone on here do any long distanct touring with their DR350? I know about the book with the guys that all did RTW together on them, but I am wondering about current guys. Or gals. Anyone?

How long does it take you to swap front sprockets on the side of the road?

Works for me. What about sprocket swapping time?

Couldn't tell you on that one.

I know he kept his gearing low for the off-road stuff and just dealt with it being slow at highway speeds

I think it all boils down to your comfort level. The Mondo Enduro/Terra Circa guys did an around the world trip on some very beat up DR350's and there have been a couple of guys who've done the TAT. Most of my buddies whom I've ridden long distances with in the past think I'm nuts for downsizing to the DR350. Their comfort level is more like, a lazy boy with wheels so they can't get their minds around riding a DR350. To them a 650 is about as small as one should go. The little DR350 will certainly do the job as a long distance tourer but ya gotta be prepaired for a slower pace and a little less comfort than an R1200GS. I'll be taking mine from Texas to Copper Canyon Mexico and back at the end of the month and again at the end of October. Doing the TAT on the DR350 in 09' ...

As for the front sprocket, it's a piece of cake to swap out on the road. I carry a 14 tooth sprocket in either my tank bag or my Dirtbagz and can swap it with the 15 tooth fairly easily and quickly, just a few minutes. You shouldn't have any problems making the change on the side of the road.

Steve

A while back I posted that I was looking at a 350.
I got it at last. I paid way more than 850 for it, but all and all it looks like a keeper. It has less than 8000 miles on it.
Good tires
Good chain +sprockets
One owner (Buddy)
Used for 80 mile round trip commute and flat gravel road only.
Clean, no big dents , bone stock ecept for a rear rack and bag.
Its a 99 with E start.

Looks like the DT 400 will be ice only. And thats ok with me.

Dan

You guys are making me envious. I got rid of my DR 350 the wrong way (abandonment after motor blew up) and I wish I didn't.

Keep the inspiration and someone in San Diego sell me yours!

Well, me being to lazy to drive 80 or so miles made me lose on the deal, i could have got up to see it before, he messaged me in morning stating it sold. The 98 se sold too, oh well. I think i'm going to spend a bit more and go with a drz400s, it may be a bit heavier, but is taller, and should perform a bit better in the rough. I'll keep eyes open for both, but now am swaying toward a drz. Water-cooled is a plus for me, shim under bucket valve adjustments i do already no worries there. 5-speed, oh well again, not going to be touring with the thing. Still debating... Thanks again for all the input. :)
