What site is that. Great price. Who knows if that is the right year. Seems like the ones pictured. Acerbis tanks typically come with the petcocks and mounts. But then, I have never seen one go for such a low price.

Max Zuk is a good site. Though it is realyl slow these days. Their archieves is really good.

Not sure about the South African site.

96-04 were the only years the XR400R was produced. There were no changes to the tank, so this one should work. That is a good price, let us know the site.

www.promotive.com
Its a members only website, wholesale prices. Not sure what the exact requirements are to join, but you have to be accepted by a group/team to become a member.
Majority of it is military/law enforcement gear. Not sure why Acerbis has an account with them, but I'm not going to ask.

33mm exactly ehhh. OK that makes sense. As they are BST33 carbs. I want to make sure that the carb I am installing on a DR250 was indead the smaller version I think they are BST31's.

You should be able to talk him down with that kinda mileage. Unless it has brand new tires, chain, sprockets and a full service record, Id be hesitant to pay over $1500

It is an SE plated. Tires half life chain sprockets not new but serviceable. Has a supper trap pipe otherwise stock. Has some rusty fasteners/nuts n bolts frame normal boot wear it looks like it has been used. It's the no receipt for the rebuild with miladge that has me questioning. $1900 seems a touch steep but the 98 and 99 don't come around often. I've got a 97my wife rides but the better suspension is what I would like.

$1900 seems a bit high to me - unless it's in pretty darned good condition, which would be surprising with 30K miles on it. If it looks ok, has no obvious flaws and the engine seems strong, I'd say $1600 tops, but I'd offer $1200. Unless it's had a lot more than a top end rebuild, expect to have to refresh wheel bearings, steering bearings, shock, forks, suspension linkage, etc., and deal with things like worn, rattly levers and sidestand, worn/frayed/"modified" wiring, etc., etc. If any of these are immediately evident, start knocking $$ off the asking price.

From previous experience, I would not trust that it was rebuilt if it can't be backed up by hard evidence. It might have been rebuilt but more than 2K ago (without records, how would the seller know for sure - it could be 10K and you'd never know.) Also the term "rebuilt" could mean anything from new valves, cam, rockers, piston, etc. to a quick hone and valve grind (maybe).

I've recently been looking at cars for my daughter and have come across multiple examples of things like things like "new tires" (yeah, two years and 20,000 miles ago), and "runs great" (it runs... once you get it started... but it shifts like crap and the check engine light is on).

Gave $2300 for my "98SE with less than 1K miles, and I'd do it again. Unless you're in a big hurry, think I'd keep lookin if he want come down a lot. A lower mileage one will show up.

I'm kind of surprised at what DR350's seem to be selling for, but that doesn't seem to be too far off the mark. The 98/99 SE are the best years and you don't see them up for sale all that often. I would think $1500 would be a decent deal with $1900 not impossible depending on the local market. I paid $1000 for a 98 dirt model that was super clean with a brand new FMF pipe, re-valved suspension, new tires/chain/sprockets.

Acerbis XR400 tank mounting

Hi there, check out the the pics here...

http://www.wilddog.za.net/forum/inde...opic=58367.360

and

http://www.wilddog.za.net/forum/inde...opic=58367.160

I mounted the tank slightly differently to the second link, I left the Acerbis XR tank mounts on the tank,
- the RH mount is from the top front engine mount to the horn mount and that connects to the tank mount
- the LH mount comes from the lower front engine mount, I made the bracket
- the seat mount is the same as in the second link, with a bit of foam for cushioning.

Hope this helps. I still need to paint the mounts.

Cheers,
Dale
