Hey guys, hadda question to ask yinz..my ignition key dont work in the frame lock, no surprise i guess right? well...anything i can do to utilize the steering lock? is it replaceable? can i get a key made by chance? hope someone can help me! lol itd be nice to have in working condition! Thanks guys/gals!

When I got my "98 DR350se, it didn't have the steering lock key. After some time searching the interweb I found the key blanks for the Neiman Steering Lock from this guy.... http://www.motorcyclekeys.com/blanks.html . Just called him and ordered a couple of blanks. They are Suzuki "3" blanks on his Suzuki key page.... http://www.motorcyclekeys.com/blanks4.html . Took the blanks to a lock smith shop and in ~ 5 min. he had the blank cut. The first guy I took it to didn't know what the was doing, But the secong store I went to, the guy had it done with a small file in nothing flat, Think he charged me $10.00. You can replace the whole lock cylinder, but probably don't need to. A "good" lock smith can file a new key blank pretty easily. I watched him do it, He just put the blank in the lock and tried to turn it back and forth. He said the tumblers made marks on the blank where he would file. I looked but I couldn't see the marks. Never figured it out, but he didn't have any trouble at all doing it.

Yeah, a GOOD locksmith can file out a key to the fork lock pretty quick and easy. Shouldn't cost more than $20 including the blank if you make it easy for him (like ride the bike to his shop instead of him coming to you). I've seen this done lots of times for file cabinets, fork locks, even vending machines. Makes ya hope all locksmiths are honest tho, when you see a guy open a very high quality, max-security $1000+ file cabinet containing sensitive (SSNs, credit reports, etc) employee records in about 15 minutes with just a file, 2 blank keys (double locks), and a good eye!

FYI a GOOD locksmith is priceless; a BAD locksmith can ruin your day when your forks are now locked (never locked them cuz I didn't have a key, DUH) and the lock is broken and you still don't have a working key. Ask me how I know

A Taylor B69K key blank is a perfect fit and available at most hardware stores here on the tundra. This is the same blank as used by airhead BMW's.

A few years ago I was in Mexico and lost my spare key. Being the nervous type I went to a locksmith in Chihuahua who had to make a blank using only a file on some blank that looked close to him. It was expensive though, IIRC about 10 pesos.

I agree with you on the Trailtech. This is the one I just installed on mine. I haven't tried it at night however.

Yeah, I told both the lock smiths about the Taylor B69K blanks (info from somewhere way back on this thread) but they didn't have them and the ones they had were close but not just right, so for $6.00 I just ordered them.
