Now, someone get him a Katoom so when I get a 525EXC, he'll have the fairing waiting!

I've been looking for someone who does custom rally fairing fabrication, and your work looks great!

Unfortunately, I've got a DRZ400 but 'll shoot you a PM and maybe we can figure something out.

Rally Fairing Fabrication

Hi Ken,

I really like what you've done with the XR 650 R rally fairing you've fabricated - the setup looks great.

I've been looking for someone who provides these kind of fabrication services, and I'm hoping you can help me out with my DRZ400. I'm planning to install a 4.0 gal IMS tank, and I'd like to fit it with a rally fairing similiar to the one you've put together for the XR 650 R.

I noticed in your post that you were looking for other applications to base your fabrications on, and I'm hoping you'll be willing to go through the exercise with me and my DRZ. Unfortunately, I'm anything but local (I live in Toronto, Canada) but I'm thinking with the internet, some planning, and accurate measurements, this should be something we could tackle remotely. I'm willing to take lots of pictures and measurements, and I'd even be prepared to send you the tank and lights to fabricate the side fairing pieces around. It sounds like the mounting system and center fairing might be universal, with only the side panels requiring custom fitting.

Anyways, please let me know if you're interested in this kind of project.

Thanks,
Paul

I'd be happy to work on the fairing for you.. but... Unless you can get a group order of 10 or more.. it's pretty much a custom job. and price would be what time and materials I would have in it..which would more that the cost of the XR fairing.

next is aquiring a bike that I can mock up. I would need it for at least 2 weeks or more to get the fitment right.

My dream bikes that I'd like to make these for are:

CRF 450 X with the acerbis 4.75 gallon tank
2008 exc 450/530 with acerbis or aqualine 24/27 liter rally tank
WRF 450 w 6 gallon acerbis tank

If anyone wants to drop these bikes off for a few weeks at the house for a mock up.. I'd definately work out a deal on a fairing.

I've been working on a prototype using the 950 adverture headlight that Jim has sent me.

It really has potential to look good. I only worked on it a few minutes last night and did a rough cut in on the old r&d fairing it fit pretty easy.

going to tweek a few things:
1st is get the fitment correct
2nd extend the fairing to be a little taller to maybe 3 to 4" for more wind blockage.

Here's the picture of the really rough (really rough) mock up.

Hmmm, doesn't seem nearly so easy after all

Maybe I should just trade mine for an XR 650 instead ...

Thanks for the reply,
Paul

better for me then I will have one ready for you.

Plus the xr is such a better bike. Now if it had electric start from the factory... it would be perfect

It's going slow but here an update

Progress has been slow. but the light has been formed in.

going to work on extending the top of fairing to help with wind resistance

and work on the mounting brakets

Here it is after I did a little filling to get the shape of the fairing to match the curves of the
lamp..

this is it after a lot of sanding and shaping and adding a filler coat of epoxy.

i would also like to see if it would fit an xr650l. my only concern is that it wouldnt fit bc you cant get that tank for the L. and that might screw up the whole process.
