990 Gas Mileage

I just finished a 202 mile street/dirt ride using 4.2 gals of pricey premium, which comes out to 48 mpg. While I wasn't riding WFO, I wasn't babying it either. Along with Sunday's 100 mile 2-up ride of 45 mpg, I am going to be pleased with the mileage.
Here are a couple pictures from todays ride, at about 9,000 ft.

That may be your mistake. I get 36 doodling down the highway to work, 38-40 when I wick it up on the weekends. I have a 16t countersprocket in my garage. Keep wondering whether it would help my mileage. Counterintuitive, but then it is a countersprcket.

My fuel light/trip computer came on at about 185, by the time I stopped at the gas station by my house the trip was reading 17.9 miles and I was getting nervous. I filled it up with 4.2 gals. With only 370 miles on the bike it was only the 2nd time I had filled it up and the first for the fuel light to come on. It only takes a little bit of throttle to kick out the rear on gravel, what a blast!

Really gad to see your results here. I will be on one of these beauties this year and while the budget will be tight the extra gas mileage sure doesnt hurt.

Please tell me how to get more when you wick it up on the weekends. I get 35 dooling to work and back and down to 30 on the weekends (wicking it up!). 17/45 gearing.

I always thought that a 950 could pull atleast 38 no problem. At least that has been my experience.

I have no idea. All I know is that if I ride my local highway at 80 mph I get better mileage than if I ride the same highway at 65. Air temperature, wind speed, time of year all similar. I know I'm happier and more relaxed on the weekend at 80 mph than I am on Monday at 65 mph. Maybe that makes a difference.

With about 800 miles on my bike I'm getting about 37-38mpg.

With about 800 miles on my bike I'm getting about 37-38mpg, hasn't changed since the break-in really. I ride around with the side-paniers, without those it would probably do a bit better. Anxious for my tank bag to get here so I'll have something to throw my crap into.
