Anyway I'm setting up the KLR for a few short overnight trips. I'm trying to use mostly my backpacking stuff. Should trasition pretty well everything is light weight. I carry alcohol in an MSR bottle. Well I did in the Grand Canyon anyway, we were out in the boonies when 9/11 happened. We flew back the first day you could fly. Quite an interesting story, but thats a whole nother tail. Needless to say they didnt like my aluminum bottle full of alcohol so I ditched it. What I am getting at is, if you are using alcohol (for cooking) how do you carry it. I never worried about the top vibrating loose in my backpack. But, this jumping jack I ride is a whole nother story. I was thinking of using a bicycle bottle cage like this...

I have a water filter so I could mount another cage on the other footpeg to carry a water bottle. As long as the containers fir snug in the cage I think they would be fine. I'll be on pavement and mild fire roads. I rigged up a bag from my old web gear for odds and ends. That, my tent, and my givi should be plenty of room for a weekends worth of gear.

I use a empty nyquil bottle, holds enough for a few days and wont leak. I have used the same bottle for 2 years now.

What's wrong with just using the heet bottle that the alchohol came in? I sometimes use a little squirt bottle if I want to carry less, if you can step on it and it doesn't leak fuggitaboutit and toss it in your pack. (yes I stomped on several at REI till i found one that would hold)
By the way I made a kiwi can stove and love it. http://www.backpacking.net/makegear/...ove/index.html I modified the design so I can have full jet flame, medium flame and simmer. (yes I do sometimes run out of fuel when cooking for more than just me, I cool it down pop it open and fill it again.) I also bought the jetboil for when i'm not worried about weight and want fast convienience.

Be careful with the cages. I have had a few break and also lost bottles out of them. I would suggest plastic instead of the alloy ones and a strap of some type to keep the bottle in place. Another alternative (KLR penny tech compliant) is to use bits of motorcycle tube to strap the bottles to the frame. The tubing provides a cushioning effect but replace it every few months if left in the sun.
