Awwwwwwww crap!!! That sucks.

Damn.......there is only a small section of sand to get to the camp spot and it got her.

You guys adapted, handled it well, and Sandy looks to be in good spirits.
We may have to modify the Dolores plans, but I'm hoping that you guys can make it! Some good music and free flowing beer is almost as good as a morphine drip.

FatChance you write up a good ride/crash report. Hope FatWife gets well soon. Remember those crutches are longer then they look.

Bummer!!

Ya'll, that is a MAJOR vacation downer, but keep your head up high. Sandy, I did the same thing to my wife last year on the 1st day of our 2-up trip to Winter Park, CO. I was riding ahead to check out the trail for the next days ride and fell off at 5 mph to a great lower body twister, I was held up the rest of the vacation and then some!!

Heal well, heal quickly, get some of that Chinese Homeopathic herb called Bone Set...I am trying it on my clavicle (read article in Rockies forum to hear about my faceplant with a truck two weeks ago: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=231393

Take care

Eek

G'day Dale, I am very sorry to see that Sandy has joined the club after all your hard work to get ready for what looked like a great trip . Please pass on my warmest regards to Sandy and I hope she will be up and about soon without to much trouble, in the mean time take good care of her she is a lovely lady, I still remember her concern about my racking cough at Ouray which as usual cleared up on the last day

So Sorry Fatwife, that sucks!!!
Dale it sounds like you kept your cool and did everything just right. I would of been a wreck seeing my lovely in pain like that.
Let us know if we can do anything to make it easier for you two to join us this weekend. Tell Sandy there will be plenty of good company around camp at all times to help her.

Give a call if you'd like, we'll do whatever it takes to make it a nice weekend for her!!! (If you all still feel up to it).

I know you are hurt honey, but just wait a sec until I get this pic for my buds!!

I don't know if I could have handled it as well as you.

It must have been nerve wracking to leave the bike in the desert all alone.

+1 to all of that.

Looks like she's a good sport.

Heal fast!

Thanks for all the good wishes!

Her ankle isn't really painful, she is having more problems from bumps and bruises from the biff and from hobbling around on the crutches. She'll be back up and active sooner than later.

I'll be taking her to the orthopedic doctor this afternoon and will give an update. Hopefully they can get her in a walking cast. She has zero patience for sitting around...

Thanks, again!

I recommend LOTS of liquid anesthetic.

Helps!

Hope all heals quickly!

flip

What a great attitude! You are a lucky guy to have a gal who can flip you off so well while striking a pose in the dirt.

Hope the healing is fast.

Thank goodness the damage was the kind that can be overcome relatively easily.

Well, we went to the orthopedic doctor (he also works at the Vail clinic where they deal with the world-class athlete big-shots) this afternoon. Here is what it looked like:

He said the ankle looked worse than the x-rays portrayed (the bottom of the fibula is still broken well and properly!), so she is getting a walking cast for 6-8 weeks and can get around and work "as tolerated". She does not have the patience to sit around, so this is GREAT news!

So, she then asks to go to the Palace to have a drink or two and some early dinner to celebrate the good news with a good friend of hers.

So, it looks good. This is the first time she could put weight on her foot and (what a surprise!) it hurts! So, we'll take it easy, she will try working, but there will be further exploits of FatWife appearing on these pages before you know it. Plus, she'll be front and center at WestFest and ready for more adventures!

Thanks so much for all the kind words and thoughts. They are all warmly appreciated! This place rocks!

"a drink or two at the Palace"....is a big fat, friggin' lie -- don't even pretend to tell us that its even remotely possible that you and/or sandy had 'a drink or two,' while injured, at the Palace....i know better...

but seriously...

I am totally bummed to hear about your trail woes....i was driving back from Cortez around 1 or so and I saw you two riding the DR's out toward moab...jealous I was indeed...

please let me know if I can do anything to help out -- dog sitting, drink pouring, moustache trimming, whatever....you name it, you got it...

get well soon sandy...we need you out there!
