I was just thinking about this the other day. In April, I got 2 tickets while riding around in a rental car in Leipzig. I had (and have) absolutely no idea what I did wrong.
Had my Ique with me and would have loved POI's of the cameras. ![]() |

eGS-Overlay "Europäische Gefahrenstellen"
Hi,
If you understand German: http://www.naviboard.de/vb/showthread.php?t=18363, this covers the whole of Europe with currently (version 2007-06) over 18'000 "dangerous locations" Technical discussions and questions etc should go in the same forum, please. As a side note ... you may want to know that having speed cameras as POI (=with the possibility of "actively warning" you) on a GPSr is considered illegal in many European countries. Thus, what you can download there is a transparent overlay map - no active warning is possible, but you have red dots on the map I will not comment on the "is it illegal" debate, but a simple fact is that there is way too much legal uncertainty around, and in case of doubt your GPSr might be confiscated. And I'm not sure you want his.

In Belgium they keep on installing new digital cameras along the highways. This site keeps you safe and up to date. Download the first one on the list.

one of the biggest problems i think are the safety camera vans that park in ridiculous places eg grass banks on brows of hills, motorway bridges and even peoples driveways! Saw one the other day on a blind bend 200 yards past a static speed camera

I saw that you are talking about speed cameras. Can someone tell me where in UK I can expect them and what is speed limit for UK (local road and highway)?

You can expect them anywhere! No, really, I'm not joking. They are supposed to be safety cameras, but I've seen some on long stretches of open roads with no junctions, houses etc... They also have mobile units which can be visible and also covert units which if you see them, it's probably too late! Motorway speeds are 70mph Dual carriage ways (A roads) are 70mph unless otherwise stated Single carriage ways (A roads) are 60mph unless otherwise stated Most other roads are sign posted, if not, it's probably the national speed limit - 60mph, unless it is a built up area with lamp posts at regular set distances (can't remember the distance, and my daughter has borrowed my highway code book). Play safe if unsure and stick to 30mph I'm not sure about using camera locations on a GPS in Europe. I've heard they are illegal in all EU countries except the UK and (I think) Hungary. If stopped by plod, and the camera location option is active, I believe they can confiscate the GPS and fine you. Someone correct me if I'm wrong ![]()
