Great report Mark!!
I used to "spring" hunt down around Mountain Grove and Ava Mo.
I deer hunt out of a little town called Roby, lots of little springs to be found
around the Big Piney River and the riding ain't to shabby either!

Btw, how many miles do you have on the KLR?

That sucks nobody showed up, I was in the NF near Edgar Springs on a damn atv of all things. I would of made the trip if I had my bike with me, I was about 40mi from loggers lake as the crow flies. Thanks for the tracks and the great RR!

Yeah, was at meramec state park with gf and kid, doing the car camping bit. I would have joined you but no internet access on my phone there :( Would love to go riding sometime with someone as accomplished, that means old, as you. :)

LOL, I just accidentally ran into this post while I was googling around, planning another try at the ferry ride. Not sure if you saw my ride report or not, but I've got some pictures of you and your bike towards the end.

The KLR has 52,000 miles on it.

The only problem I've had with this bike was at about 45,000 miles----the right front signal got a little loose and I had to tighten it up a bit---took about 1 minute. I am always saying to myself if I hit the starter button on that bike and it didn't start---the world would probably quit turning.

Mark,
Thanks for sharing the Spring RR.. I worked around the house all day Sat and had a short ride Sunday down around Bourbon, MO..
I'll have to look at missing the ride with you as a real lost opportunity. I think I saw the post announcing your adventure on that Sat morning. Now I'm wondering if I would have seen it earlier would I have caught up with you? My loss..
Next time I'll catch up, or at least have a great ride looking for you..
(I downloaded your GPS file, thanks.)
Got to get something rigged up so I can carry all the camping stuff "safely" on the XC.. (My Agnes is in the basement wondering why I'm taking her anywhere anymore.)

Keep us posted on your next adventure..

Jeff

Mark: Thanks for the ride report. This is the kind of ride I was talking about earlier this spring when we went snow riding. I would have answered your call but, unfortunately, I was at the Arkansas Hillbilly ride in Eureka Springs. Great report and thanks for the new tracks. larry

I sent an invite out to all Missouri adventure riders to ride with me last weekend--nobody showed up.

Mark,
I looked at your SPOT 3 or 4 time in the AM on Sat. Next time I hope to hunt you down.
If you go looking for Fox Spring south west of Cuba give Judy and I a call.

I do alright with a wolfman duffel on the back, wolfman tank panniers, and a small backpack... I usually just take a hammock and buy food on the road though.

He usually has me carry some of his gear...

Thats the newer Wolfman large duffle on the back of my f8. I find that if I put tent poles or something stiff across the bottom it doesn't droop as much as it is in this photo.

Flo likes to mount his in line with the bike which I think works well on the X.

I do think the trick is to get a good hammock like the Hennessy Explorer, Therm-a-Rest ProLite for cool weather and then just pack a sleeping bag. Everything else is superfluous.

Now, when Taylor and I go canoe camping we pack about 250 pounds of stuff.

anybody on Callaway sunday?

Our family farm isn't too far from Callaway so I headed out there sunday evening for a little sight seeing on my KE 100. Unmarked police truck was at the second creek crossing nearest F and he followed me a while and then stopped to see my license etc. claiming there'd been some ATV's trespassing on private property around there and my bike looked like the kind that might be inclined to trespass. He said there was about 8 guys on 'bikes like mine' in the AM that went down on the slimey crossing closest F. Surely there's not a crew of KE 100 riders out there. As we talked, he was kind of surprised that all the riders were 'around my age' (almost 50). I went on to tell him about the dirt bike explosion of the 70's blah, blah blah. OK, who fell in the creek there and where are the pics of the carnage?

jason,
Hey flyjay-----I hardly ever plan things in advance---I only gave myself 2 hrs. notice on that ride and put the post up as I left the house But I'll try.

I'm kind of thinkin' of riding up to moonshine---if I do----I will get there about 9:30AM----10 at the latest---get a burger and hang around for a while visiting and such----I just don't do lines very well. So I'll be there early---I'm not positive I'm going but think I will unless something else trips my trigger. If you want to join me-----or talk about it Cell 618-246-4821

It'll be just a relaxing day with no hurry to do anything.
