We came from the south--went thru the tunnel and went West---and there is a tressel
just down the road by a low water crossing.

Pretty neat tunnel and tressel.

The Frisco Railway tunnel @ the Meramec Highlands Station

This is what it looked like when we were using it for a Hangout.
If you knew where to turn off into the bushes off S. Glenwood Lane, you could ride right down the old rail bed (tracks long gone. Now called Modoc Trail),
right past the abandoned station (that section now part of Barberry Lane) and up to the tunnel.

Located here...

Info @ this site where I snagged the pics,
http://www.meramechighlands.com/

The old station was converted into a private residence a couple of years ago, with other houses built almost right up to the tunnel. Turn south on Barberry off Big Bend to see it and ride to the end of the road and their is a foot path to the tunnel.

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=barber...h&z=17&vpsrc=6

The company I was working for at the time did all the flooring in that development, so I got to see the Before/During/ After of the old Station.

Your GPS (at least mine does) will show that the road goes through when you go north. It doesn't.
It is a neat road though, until you realize your really on his driveway. Don't run over his chickens, they are free range birds..

Check out Little Toot steam railroad in Charley Brown Park at Flora,IL(100mi due east of STL on 50). They have just done a lot of refurbishing and were recently featured on the SIU TV station. - Bob Herr

Either the SWIL tracks or the creek roads off 94. Both would make a good days ride.

I might want to tag along, if you guys don't mind.. I just ran the creek roads on Sunday, but I'll run em again..

Pretty amazing, ran three of them, and came across one other vehicle. A pick-up I had to pass on Massas..

Lots of deer camps along the roads though, but I think deer season ends tomorrow.. Hope they got em all..

What are the SWIL tracks? All this rain will have cut the dust factor down.

If you can send me some creek tracks, I know where they are but have never been out there. Would be nice to have the gps know what to do since I don't.
