Good riding down in Big Bend

Had four good days riding down there. Too much fun.
Here's Kevin flying along. We ran al the good routes in the NP, and SP..

Notice the front tire.. There's a lot of dips and hills down there. Plus it's fast riding

Here's my highlight pic.. Two breaks in my rt fibula.. Four weeks off. Just a little too hot going into the last turn after four days without a drop.

Pretty ironic really. We had been running pretty hard for four days, without a single problem.
I'd helped 'the other guys' pick up several bikes. Ha..
I was beginning to think, maybe I'm getting decent at this..
Came up on that turn too fast. Steep drop off and pretty sharp right turn.

The good news is, it's only 4 weeks in a support boot. I can take it off to drive..

So sorry about your accident. Same thing happened to me at the LBL200 last September while riding my Honda NX250. Get well. Hope to get to ride along with you again this year.

I should be back on a bike by April 1st.. After that it will be convincing my boss (wife) that I'm good to go.

By May 1st she'll be sick of me whining around the house.. The SBR should be no problem..

Hey Jeff--hope you heal fast. It's easy for me to get throwed out of the house-----I just start hanging around her kitchen a lot---getting in the way---nosing around---smellin' stuff---stickin' my fingers in whatever she's cooking----next thing you know-----"ain't you got somewhere to go ride" ??????

Jeff,

Hope you're ready for Swinging Bridge; don't think I'll make it this year though.

I'm headed for Big Bend at the end of the month but don't plan on riding the back roads like you all did, I'll just go slow. I'm finally getting old enough to know better plus I don't think the F650GS is the right bike for flying down rough gravel/sand roads. Any suggestions which roads I should avoid; I hate riding over large rocks.

There are several great roads down there.. It's hard to find a bad one. You have to take 170 from Terlingua to Presidio. Stay on 170 to Ruidosa. It's a blacktop, but a good one. Dont forget to stop at the top of the pass about 20 miles from Terlingua. It's a great picture spot. At Ruidosa You can then take 30 miles of gravel (Pinto Canyon Rd) up to Marfa, then over to Alpine, and back down to Terlingua. It's a long ride, but a good one.
If you want to go into the state park (you should) it's gravel back to the lodge.. Great lunch stop at the ranch bunk house. Call before you go, just to make sure they are serving. It's easy gravel.

Roads to avoid.. Black Gap RD in the Natl park. It's fun, but lots of rock. Any roads past the bunk house in the state park, all deep sand/gravel with some big hills and rocks.
One of my favorite roads is Old Ore Rd in the Natl Park. It has some neat sections where you are going in and out of some small canyons. I'm not 100% sure you want to ride it alone, because it's pretty isolated if you have a problem, but it's ideal on a 650.

There's lots of great riding down there. Take some pics, and have fun.

Jeff
