Ride down 19 to Emminence. Stop and look at some springs. West from Emminence is Alley Spring. East from Emminence is Rocky Falls. Might even get to see some of the Conservation Depts Elk. West to Van Buren and see one of the biggest springs in the country. Called Big Spring. Good hwy riding or gravel. On the way to Big Spring from Van Buren there is a side road called Skyline. Worth taking if your in the area. Further south from Emminence is another big spring called Greer Spring. About a mile hike to get to it. All downhill to it but all uphill coming back. Between Salem and Emminence on KK is Devils Well or Icebox. I always forget which one is there and which one is in Columbia. Agood road to travel between kk and 19 is K. Other places of interest. Bixby Country store, Johnsons Shutins. Bixby is on 32 which is a great motorcycle road east from Salem.

Thanks all. I have gathered the info given, Butler Ozarks map and gps files from the Swinging Bride and Freeman rides. Looks like I'll find a place near Emminence or Butler for the night.
Cheers,
RD

Saturday Ride?

The weather is shaping up for Saturday and I'll have new skins on the KLR, Kenda 270r, Shinko 244f. Anybody want to ride? Suggestions on routes?
I'll mention it also tomorrow to my KLR buddies at mexican night at the KOC. I wouldn't be against a run down the levees to Prairie Du Rocher and then maybe the ferry to St. Gen/Crown Valley.

Modoc Ferry

Sieg says the Modoc ferry is not running as of last Friday, the guy retired and they are trying to find a replacement.

I'm thinking on moving the ride to Sunday, better weather, and I can get my yard work done on Sat.

Sunday Ride

Over mucho tostadas and beer the decision was made to ride on Sunday.
We are going to the Calhoun Co. area and I want to continue checking a track that goes north from Pere Marquette eventually ending up in Kampsville. Meet at the Motomart on 157 in Collinsville at 8:00. It's just north of 55/70 at the Beltline.

I don't recall 8am being mentioned over tostada's last night. It could be the beer affecting my memory, I did have an extra one to wash down the jalapeno's. How about 9am, much better this time of year. As for 6-8 being the best, well maybe in August but not now.

Sunday

I may have to reconsider riding Sunday, my back's really screwed up this time...just sitting at the kitchen table typing this is painful, no way to sit comfortably. I hate to call for a ride and then wuss out, but ibuprofen isn't cutting it, 'bout time to break out the beer and whiskey this evening. I'll see how it feels tomorrow AFTER I MOW THE FREAKING GRASS AGAIN!!!

Sunday down south in Big dog territory?

How about a ride down south in IL in shawnee national forest. Been wanting to ride there, but have missed out. Big dog has some great tracks out there. ANy takers? Else will work on bike instead. New tank, new tires, and new sprockets.

Sunday Ride?

What do you think Rustynut, want to do the Shawnee instead of Calhoun Co.? I'd be game, back is feeling better. I could ride the LaRue Pine Hills area every day if I lived close. I need to try out my new tires to see if I can keep up with you in the gravel anyway.

And, of course, 9:00 would be a better start time, it's supposed to be great weather.

Coming from north STL, so where to meet? Usually when we do a ride like this we meet up near columbia IL. Where are you guys coming from? Further south? I can meet further south, just will take some time to get there.

Just joined today but been watching for awhile. If you guys are coming down to the Shawnee Forest maybe I can ride with you. I can't keep up with the fast bikes as mine is 200 cc but know all the gravel roads and some easy and hard roads to go on.

How about the gas station in Columbia, the red roof one at the bluff rd and rt 3. 9am. Then head down to meet Dave somewhere.
