I don't think we are inhospitable, you are just in the wrong thread. This thread is mostly St. Louis area riders. Try the Southwest Mo thread, you may find some riders there

Come over near the east edge of MO, I'll ride with you.

(Bill get ready I'm on my way)

BigDogs Toughest Ride

How come I rode for days on end---never had a flat---never had a bike problem---never ran out of gas------rode all day long

And never got more that 60 miles a day--how could that be.

If your bike weighs more than 400lbs. You might not make it.

Thanks RV-----something else I did last year that is great for the motorcyclists.

And that is to follow the Katy Trail on your adventure bike----a big one would be great---I did it on my 950------just follow it as best you can staying as close to it as possible on legal roads. All of those trailheads and of course the little towns are accessible.

I did that in one long day from my son's in Kansas City, Kansas to my home in Illinois. I recommend a much, much slower pace than that tho.
You just don't see that much riding 3-400 miles in a day.

I have a gps file of the Katy------with all kinds of handy waypoints for all kinds of stuff. Do not PM me for it.

Send me an e-mail requesting it.

I rode the KATY trail many years ago with three buddies. (We stayed together all four days ;-))
Had a blast. I highly recommend it. We hoteled it the first two nights. Booneville (I think) and then Jeff City.
Then we camped the third night by the ball fields in Marthasville. (I think, long time ago.)
One guy had the brilliant idea of getting a trailer for his bike. All my stuff fit on mine. The trailer had little wheels. It was like dragging an anchor. Torture. I took it in shifts. We finally left it in Jeff City. The other two guys wouldn't pull it any more. Ha.. May still be in the storage closet at the Holiday Inn.

I didn't know you rode bicycles Jeff. That's funny about the trailer.
I picked up one of those Bob trailers once---I think just the trailer weighed 15 lbs.

Good read Mark. I really enjoyed the pictures. I'm saving for a recumbent and when I finally get it I will be able to get out there and pedal away some pounds. My back doesn't tolerate a conventional bike for long.

Mark,
I'm trying to stay in bicycle shape. Been riding it lately more than my motorcycles. It's hard to fight Mother Nature..

Mark, I thoroughly enjoyed the Katy Trail story, too... the more you report, the happier I am! Glad you didn't like history in school...you turned out A-OK!... the history tidbits are what make it interesting.

I rode portions of the Trail in the 80s and 90s, but never got very far from St. Charles. Would you agree that the keys to having a good time are picking the right weather and the right equipment and not being in a hurry? Being retired sure is nice!

BTW, someone said they are looking for a recumbent-- I have a low-mileage, very nice Bike-E that I would sell or trade for... a Garmin 276C perhaps? I bought it new when I had a bad back and it made a huge difference. But now that my back is better I don't need it. I'm located near Cape Girardeau. 573-200-3662

Aren't all recumbent bikes "low mileage"?
