Glacier national park

I'm going camping out there next week and probably staying at Many Glacier campground. I was thinking about bringing the KLR along, does anyone know if there are good dirt road or trail riding spots in the park or just outside?

Hi Coaster:

Take a look at some of RSTed1000s stunning photographs from GNP to help you decide if you should take the KLR.

You might check with Real Gone, he was heading up there too. Not sure of his schedule, but perhaps he'll have some ride recommendations or, if your timing overlaps, maybe you two could even meet up?

Oh yeah, LoneStar might be there too.

Hope you get some nice riding in. I'll be visiting Montana/Glacier for my first time in August. Really looking forward to it....

I was there last year. I believe it is all hiking trails out of Many Glaciers, if not the whole park. Do, go have a buffalo steak at the steakhouse in Babb. The southern perimeter road is a nice drive (hwy 2) as is 89 and 17 to the border. If you need a dirt fix head west or southwest of the park.

I may be in that area over the 4th. give a wave.

Going to the Sun Road CLOSED!

Update: from NPS Website: http://www.nps.gov/glac

When is the Going-to-the-Sun Road Opening?
About half of the road is open to visitors now. Repair work is still underway on the upper slopes to fix severe damage caused by a November storm. We anticipate an early July opening of the entire road over Logan Pass, possibly as early as July 1, weather permitting. The links below will take you to more detailed information on park road status.

Going to the Sun opening

It is hoped that the road will open in early July. They are still cleaning up after major storm damage last November when someof the road was washed away.

The east side of the park has some seldom used dirt roads for you and the F.Service South of the park has some. Most will be found a ways away from Many Glacier (you do have a "hard sided" camper for Many I hope.. no tents allowed there due to bears....).

Cruise on through Helena! Lots of riding down here!

Safe travels!!

5 days ago, Going-to-the-Sun was was open for 29 miles from the westside of Glacier. Logan Pass, supposedly, is still under construction.

A local told me they received 9" of rain in one hour. Who cares if that's an exaggeration...must have been a lot of rain anyway....
