All purpose road bike jacket
I know there are plenty called all purpose but does this animal actually exist?? I'm primarily a dirt rider. Somehow I ended up with an HD Electra Glide. Must be that ageing thing. My current road jacket is a cortech circa 2000/2001. It worked pretty good on my klr but the wind protection on the hd makes it a bit warm over say 80/85 degrees. Better ce protection would be nice too. My current options are to keep it and get something like a joe rocket mesh jacket for the nasty hot. Ideally I'd like to update and get one jacket that has a mega venting/mesh under layer for trully hot 90+ temps. and stop and go duty when running around the city. That can be closed up/ lightly vented for not so hot or night time. Totally closed up w/an insulated layer underneath for when its actually a bit chilly. Fairly waterproof too for those 40% chance of afternoon shower days. ce protection is important. looking for something preferablly waist length, not 3/4. I'm kind of a fair weather road rider as dirt is still my main thing. However one jacket that does everything means less gear to haul around and a better chance to go ride because I'll be able to deal with what ever mother nature throws at me. Believe it or not hd actually has some pretty good jackets. unfortunately they have hd logos all over them which ain't my bag. hmmm maybe I should try and find out who makes them??
Does the all purpose jacket exist? Or should I just stay with the old cortech and get a mesh jacket for the nasty heat? |

He said he didn't want 3/4
I'd look at Joe Rocket Alter Ego. Nice all around jacket for all types of weather. www.Newenough.com also has those too. 2 versions available. The older version is discounted

It doesn't offer ant road rash protection, but the North Face Varios Guide Jacket is awesome.
I can wear it with a T-shirt from 50 to 90 degrees and its totally comfortable at any speed. It completely stops the wind, breaths, has zippers that open to ventilate. The zippers are lazer cut so they don't leak, even after extended periods in the rain. (a proble the BMW ralley suits and most all others have.) With a fleece under it its good down to 20 degrees. (because it stops the wind so effectively) The pants that go with it are full zip so their easy to put on and off. The material is thick enough that it doesn't flutter like your normal lightweight rain jacket, yet it is light enough that you can really pack it away on nice days. Its considered a hard shell from North Face. I chose it because I don't buy into taking off an outer "coat" to put on a rainproof insert every time I think it "might rain" (90% of what I found available from BMW type providers) Nor do I believe in sitting down to put on or take off my rain pants. I like quick easy light and stream-lined. I actually like to ride in the rain and mud. It took a lot of hard searching (and riding BECAUSE it was raining to test gear) to find this setup. Tell me what you think. |

Olympia Airglide 2 Mesh Tech Jacket
Take a look at the Olympia Airglide 2.
http://www.olympiamotosports.com/airglide/airglide.htm Olympia's products are getting great reviews. I think this jacket is the same one Kaneman is using in his 'quit my job' ride. I prefer the 3/4 length jackets, but I tried this on and it's really nice. Our local BMW dealer sells Olympia, and they seem to be very popular. One other thing going for it is you can get it in the Hi-Viz yellow if you want to be seen by the cagers. |

The Fielldsheer Glen Scott is good, cheap and does the business unless its REALLY cold. Good venting, armor, zip out liners. etc...
