Quick ride to High Rock Canyon
I tried to get some of the local riders to join me for a weekend getaway ride, but no one answered.
I needed the therapy so off I went. The canyon is part of the Applegate trail used by the pioneers. Tucked next to the Black Rock Desert in Northern Nevada, it was a strange choice of routes! There are some carvings in the rocks left by early travelers, but my aim was some good desert riding far from the city.I was planning to spend the night at the local 5 star hotel, but was turned away. Too dusty no doubt. ![]() Some of the namesake high rocks. ![]() Badger camp in the Sheldon antelope refuge is usually deserted except in hunting season. The perfect antidote for civilization! ![]() ![]() Not a lot of pictures from the ride, too busy riding.( and when riding alone, there is nobody around to record the carnage!)

That does bring back memories of my Chukar hunts in High Rock canyon more than 10 years ago. Pretty place. Last week in Sept. had dove and deer in the floor, chukar on the hillsides laughing at you, and wild turkey on the top plateau.
May have to revisit again. Will drop you a PM if I come through. |

High Rock - nice one.
came though there a few years ago and the creek was flowing strong. Rode many miles in water north to get home. Last year it was impassable due to water (or maybe the year before with the big Sierra winter). Cool old GS. |

A group of us tried to ride the High Rock last April. The water was so high up the canyon just North of Gerlach, I flooded my 1200 and trashed the flywheel. Conditions can vary a lot. This year the 2 southern crossings were fairly deep, but all the rest were dry!

A little off subject dirtduck, but how ancient can you be? I don't even see any silver around your muzzle!
