![]() I wonder what value the Antique Roadshow would put on this diary? Maybe it would go like this "There's a growing interest in motorcycle adventure journalism (nutbags on websites)... and at auction (er at fleamarket) this work would likely fetch...

Great thread. Gives you little in sigh as to what it was like back in the day. Living in the area I would say he is making good time.

this thread ought to garner a whole lot more inmates. i sure as hell emailed my biker buds with a heads-up on this one. there is no possible way with mere words to properly thank the person posting the diary. i am completely blown away.

Great story. Gives a unique insight into an age gone by. I wonder how many of us would have been motorcyclists if we'd been around back then? Keep up the good work.

One fellow answered, Nope . Very unuasual, you may not believe it but it hailed last nite and the weather man says strange things for this after noon ,so keep your eyes open. I thanked him for the information then poured a bucket a water.........

Flushed out...
Been in lurk mode for a couple of years or so. Although I've read lots of great ride reports, this thread finally flushed me out. As others have already mentioned, this is an incredibly cool report... like traveling back in time.
Others have made the observation how different things are today. Or, if the writer only knew how many would be enjoying his report 90 years later... This made me think about the other direction. Ninty years from now, I wonder if those riders/writers will look at our current, state of the art machines the same way we're looking at that old Indian. In any case, keep it coming. This is great! And greatly appreciated! |

Atlanta to Winder, GA - 51.6 miles - two hours - a blistering 25.8 mph average!! Total for his day - 216.7 miles at the unbelievable (for the day) average pace of 19.7 mph!! He had to be scaring the shit out of the cows along the way!! This guy was tough as nails, too. TWO face plants in one day, hauling his oil, doing the Indian Larry style "feet on the bars" when the engine got too hot, instead of doing what a lot of contempory pussies would - stop and let it cool off, wah, it's too hot to ride....... This 1916 guy is my hero!! More Crooked Roads, MORE!

Yeah, this is great. He cruised right through my stomping grounds here. When he's all through, I'm going to cut-n-paste it into one Word file and file it with my local history stuff.
Thanks a bunch, CrookedRoads.

Diary
Greetings Crooked and thanks for sharing it with us. The diary is a real treasure and a wonderfu read.
Dale, at Wheels Through Time museum (Maggie Valley) might be interested in it if you would consider loaning it to the mesum. Just a thought. Papa
