The money for the part comes out of one pocket and into another of the same pants.. under warranty, if bmw charges $100 or $1 for the part, they are the seller and the buyer.. the real cost is the labor charge to replace it.

but the internet is a great place to come up with "revealing indications" Here's mine.. maybe BMW leaned on their supplier of these antannae and told them this is what you're gonna be charging for them from now on..

It might be that the 247 part number isn't an active device.

Keep phoning in your BMW Roadside Assistance requests, boys and girls.

But when they are the buyer, they pay a larger dollar amount of markup to the installing dealer with a 100 dollar part than a 1 dollar part...

I really look forward to the day you are at liberty to tell us your story.

If a owned a 12GS I would have spent all my time at Google's these days.

Instead I will ride my 1150 to Holland today (1.400 km). The beer there is so good it outweights the poor food.

Ok, You all scared me

I decided to send my order in now to my dealer for the extras I want with the bike. I read on two other websites that since the BMW Adventure cases are made by touratech, the are in short supply and back-ordered. Should hear something from my dealer on availability next week

BUT ANYWAY.

Caved into the fear and put the ring antenna on my list. After watching my DVD of Helg telling me to carry one on the bike and this thread, I ordered one to have.

Its a shame that on a $20000 motorcycle you have to order a spare part before you even get the bike. But hey, at least i won't be stranded

BTW here is my final ( BMW ) list and what I expect to pay

BMW Battery Charger-AGM Battery Can-bus $144.37

Adventure Aluminum Left and Right Side Bags $1060.50

BMW Adventure Aluminum Top Case $554.39

BMW R1200GS Adventure locks for side bags and top case $76.85

BMW R1200GS Adventure Top Case Bracket $131.58

BMW R1200GS Top Case Mount Kit $21.85

BMW Tankbag for R1200GS $311.08

BMW Ring Antenna Part Number 61357696463 $144.00

Total $2444.62

1 time 20% Discount with bike purchase -488.92

Total $1955.70
Sales Tax 9% + 176.01

Total to be paid by Check $2131.71

That's the wrong part number. That was the old one. It should be: 61 35 7 705 247. Might want to get a fuel pump regulator too.

It's cheap now...

Max's has the 61 35 7 705 247 ring antennae for $36.67 plus shipping. Chicago's web site still will not recognize the part number...

EWS at 15,610 miles......

So I guess the Theory of "Failure before 3000 miles otherwise your good to go" ,... can be thrown out the window.....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bike started fine. Went to visit son at MSF course,10 minutes later restarted bike (No problems, bike started like always) and then went for a ride.
30 minutes later I stop for a few minutes,go to restart bike..click click click ,like a bad battery but the RID screen reveals EWS message.

Call BMW Roadside they have me listed under an old bike,15 minutes to get that squared away and then make my "Tow Truck" Reservations!!!
Oh well, beautiful riding day shot .....we'll see what the Dealer has to say Monday.

Bike is an '07 Adv put into service June of '07.

I hope it isn't a "Mini Series" but turns into a long term many year series since I have become addicted to reading this thread. Not since "Jag" left the air have I followed a series so (well kinda like Army Wives on Lifetime --Catherine Bell fan you know). This is more fun than final drives, no drain plug etc. Not sure what I will do if it were to stop i.e. BMW really solves it without acknowledging it existed, of course.

That is odd, clicking indicates the EWS was working correctly! Too bad you didn't jump start it to see what would happen.

Jim

PS You are not the highest mileage EWS failure.

Click click no start, is not a symptom of EWS! When you have EWS! on the display, when you press the start button, nothing happens.

Maybe your battery died suddenly, which is a possibility.. or maybe you got both issues, a dead battery and EWS!

Merged to the threadfest.

Exactly...I think Bad Battery....cuz voltage shows 12.8 key off,12.6 key on and voltage dropping 12.4-11.7-10.2 as starter is depressed. Then Headlite stays illuminated (bike not running) and EWS shows.
