Does this affect '05s at all?

I have a GSA made 08/07 on the 23rd of June I started for Alaska from the Dallas TX area. At about 250 miles out I stopped at a rest area. When I tried to restart I got the EWS error. Due to the high fuel prices and the distance nobody would tow it for BMW, Progressive, or AAA. After $1000 of my money I got it to the dealer. A week later I was on my way to Alaska, made it to Deadhorse and back home again with no problems. I also have NOT gotten any reimbursement for towing or trip interruption from BMW. I will have to say one of the greatest adventures about this trip was WTF am I going to do if I'd get another EWS error. BTW I love this bike.

Well gang, I was just initiated into this club this afternoon with my 08 GSA reading 2120 miles on the odometer. Funny, I couldn't for the life of me recall, two months ago when I bought the bike, the salesman mentioning anything about a recurring issue that could strand you in the middle of nowhere... as I stood there today, stranded in the middle of nowhere.

I secured the bike for the night in a good samaritan's garage (You know, I'd just hate for someone to hotwire that thing and ride off on it!) Hopefully, the roadside assistance can get me to the dealer tomorrow. After I made it home, I spent the afternoon researching the EWS problem and of course I come across the chart listing the bikes that fall under the campaign. And of course there's my VIN right smack dab in the middle of ZT98000 and ZT98702.

*Sigh*

Fortunately, my vitriol has been subdued somewhat by, whaddyacallit again... heat stroke?

Well I read this with good timing. I was going to schedule my first service tomorrow, since I got it with the bike. I guess I should now inquire about the EWS while I am at it too...And my title...It's been a month and a week or two and still no sign of the title.

Thumb EWS list

Thanks very much for posting this chart. My 07 GSA is right in the middle and it is a late model 07. Doing a big ride up the coast and around then back somewhere around 5000 miles. Good to have this taken care of before then. I appreciate the motivation.

My 08 GSA falls in the recall range. And sure enough the ring failed on Saturday. If it matters, I had 5300 mi on it and it was 96 degrees out when it quit. pick the bike up tomorrow. Bmw roadside picked up the towing bill, dealer charged zero for the new ring.

what is the source for the list?

my 07 gsa is on the list. i can anticipate calling my local dealer and them saying they have no idea of what i'm referring to.
I'm planning a long solo trip in 4 weeks and would feel a bit more confident knowing the EWS was replaced.

Switz, thank you for posting this.

Huh? Your VIN is in there...

You should be looking at the "R 1200 GS facelift" line.

confused

I asked my dealer if it was recall....he said he had not yet read all of the material BMW had sent him so he had no idea?!?!?!?! Is this really a recall, or just a service bulletin----in other words, is BMW actually notifying anyone directly to take their bike in?
