Just had my 08 GSA in for some service at San Jose BMW and they replaced the Ring Antenna with p/n 61357705247. Bike had 10,350 miles and NO failures, but was replaced under warranty. Thanks BMW.

My bike is not in the VIN numbers for the EWS recall.
Does this mean that it will never fail?
Anybody out of the recall VIN number had the EWS failure?
Thanks

Check your antenna ring and see if the part number ends in -247. If it does, then you should be fine.

Having said that, there is no part on earth that will never fail, though some fail a lot sooner than others.

Hi Marty!

I must admit, I am wrong. No part will ever fail "FOR YOU"!

Put away the worry beads and come up to DC for a visit some time!

Jim

Very strange that you have 3 EWS failures, while most have no problem at all. I've read other accounts here of multiple EWS failures.

Makes one wonder if there is a correlation between certain electronic add-on's/wiring modifications and EWS failures.

They haven't released the bypass procedure yet? That sounds like them. And dang, after one or two of you fellows have been up and at them with a letter too.

BMW will release the information when you are damn good and ready.

What is interesting is all 3 were on my wifes bike, we both have 07 Adventures and the VIN numbers are only 5 apart. Both built within a day or two? I have not had a failure, both bikes are outfitted the same, milage about 23000.

I just got "the call" from my dealer. I'm taking the GS in Friday to have the EWS Immobilizer replaced.

Be happy they called you, instead of you calling them ...from the road, at a dark stormy night

FYI
'07 GS.
Had the antenna ring and front brake lines done, including a throttle sync'
- for no charge.

Upon removing the front right tank cover when I got home, found the rubber grommet missing ( that is on the frame and side cover clips into ) and the fuel vent lines? seperator clip boken!
I loved the fact that BMW has this attitude to the re-calls and will continue to have them do this kind of work only, BUT, I will continue to do my own maintenance.

"Weathered one" had his 07 GSA (4 months old) fail at the rest area 40 miles east of Amarillo after leaving Dallas for Alaska. He had it towed (after calling all the involved towing decision making officials from BMW and Insurance companies, it ended up costing him more than $900 to get the bike taken to the Dallas dealer). They broke the only antenna they had in stock and it took them almost 5 days to get the bike going again.

I won't buy a new one until they give the owner the capability of disabling the EWS feature!! Their geeks programed it in - they can program it out - if the attornies will let them!! Looks like a left-over car ignition switch anyway!! Probably wasn't reliable in the cars either!
