Thanks Wallowa. Will keep that in mind on the 10Torx.
OT- God willing, next winter myself & better-half plan on doing a peninsula loop covering 3 southern states, mostly riding along the coast. Kerala state is one fascinating place.
My 08 12GS was having brake issues, but they replaced the EWS under warranty. I was not having EWS issues. I may be a BMW loyalist, but have been done right by the BMW work under warranty. Oh, the brakes problems were fixed, albeit a few trips there.

That is another thing Haroon should be aware of. Some of these bikes really eat up rear brake pads. On my 05 I had to replace the first set at 6,000 miles. There were stories of guys ruining rotors at 5k.

Is it to do with the linked brakes?
Coz on my 1100RT the rear brakes lasted me close to 20,000kms before the first change although the front pads (I use both brakes but more of the front in proportion) last for about 12,000kms.

Wait a minute. I have put over 34k miles on 3 different 1200GS's. Never had a rotor problem and sold all 3 bikes with original pads still on them. Anyone who used up pads at 6k either has a problem with the bike or their brake use.

Haroon, come over and enjoy the ride. Way too much info being thrown at you. The antenna ring problem was dealt with months ago/I put 23k miles on the "bad" ring before letting them change it under warranty.

I don’t know. JimVonBaden has a theory it is caused by a valve in the servo system associated with linkage. I think, maybe, it is a defect in the caliper, causing the rear pad to hang up. Each successive set of rear pads I use, my mileage of use increases.
I think on the 05’s most guys get between 10 to 15 thousand out rear pads. I have also heard reports of 40 thousand miles out of them.
Anyway, it’s not that big a deal but you need to keep an eye on them. And if you are taking a long trip you will want to carry an extra set with you. They are easy to replace.
Front pads last a long time.
PS: don’t buy BMW pads

Wait a minute. You have had 3 GSs in 4 years? WTF for? Apparently on two of them you accumulate only about 11,000 miles total?
What ever

If you search the subject, I think you will see most guys get 10 to 15 thousand miles out of a set of rear pads on the 05s. Below is a recent thread on the subject. The OP is complaining about only getting 18,000 miles on his rear pads.

Of course. God forbid you’d have to work on the things or know anything about out them.

Mudcat, no dealer has ever seen any of my bikes after the 600 mile svc. I do all my own work and I've logged 220,000 miles on bmw's since I started in '01.

Hope this helps.

Sheeet - I had a 1200ADv for about three years and have just recently got an HP2 ... everytime you start-up the HP2 the EWS light comes on momentarily as it goes through its check! I believe this is noraml on the HP but having seen it once on the ADV and dreaded the sight I always now shit myself when I see thos edreaded three letters ... catches me virtually everytime!
