Haroon, come over and enjoy the ride. Way too much info being thrown at you. The antenna ring problem was dealt with months ago/I put 23k miles on the "bad" ring before letting them change it under warranty.
Wait a minute. You have had 3 GSs in 4 years? WTF for? Apparently on two of them you accumulate only about 11,000 miles total?
What ever

If you search the subject, I think you will see most guys get 10 to 15 thousand miles out of a set of rear pads on the 05s. Below is a recent thread on the subject. The OP is complaining about only getting 18,000 miles on his rear pads.

Of course. God forbid you’d have to work on the things or know anything about out them.

Mudcat, no dealer has ever seen any of my bikes after the 600 mile svc. I do all my own work and I've logged 220,000 miles on bmw's since I started in '01.

Hope this helps.

Sheeet - I had a 1200ADv for about three years and have just recently got an HP2 ... everytime you start-up the HP2 the EWS light comes on momentarily as it goes through its check! I believe this is noraml on the HP but having seen it once on the ADV and dreaded the sight I always now shit myself when I see thos edreaded three letters ... catches me virtually everytime!

Ah, to be a riding fool - I want to be Marty Hill when I grow up!! Just call me a jealous. But watch out, going into semi-retirement next year for an RTW, maybe I'll start catching up!!!!

confirmation...

Hey Guys, had the dealer do the replacement ring. Quick question - is there any need to carry a spare anymore if I'm planning on an RTW?

Ok...don't carry one since BMW has now made them bullet proof and if one did crap out and you got the EWS out in BFE no big deal...

Or, they are cheap, they are small and they are very light weight...why not carry one?

Your call...

Ps...Plus if you have one and some poor stranded BMW rider doesn't have one...well you could be a hero!

Hi Guys,

Sorry to bump such an old thread - just wanted to share that the new EWS antennae keep failing. Had it replaced in my bike today and the dealer told me that just this day he had two other beemers lined up to have it fixed as well. All '09 models.

regards,
Ognacy

Are these the 247 antenna's, or something newer. Also, I see you are in Europe is this a European model thing, have not heard anything here locally since the 247 came out.

Goin' RTW anything can happen.... Best to prepare for the worst. Besides it doesn't take up that much room. Don't forget a spare fuel pump controller or at least a by pass system.
In my opinion, the 1200 series motorcycles weak points are most likely electrical issues. Antenna rings,FPC's,batterys, and any number of sensors gone bad...

The dealer told me these were the new antennas, the ones introduced after last year recall, so while the guy didn't give me the part# I am pretty sure these were the 247s. Sure, these are European models, though I would be surprised to learn they differ with regard to EWS implementation. Anyways, that might have been just a coincidence but I have just ordered a spare, just in case.
