Chicago BMW must be making a killing off of these rings. I just ordered one and it arrived in three days. Every other time I have ordered from them whatever I wanted had to be backordered. These things, they actually keep in stock. Ain't the internet wonderful!!!!

Mine went this weekend....

2007 Adv with 6K miles, no intermittant messages. Turned it off at a gas station and that was it. Old part # by the way.

Took me all of 5 minutes to hook up the spare and zip ty it in.

Get the spare.

It saved my entire trip which was one I would have been very sad to miss!! If it would have happenned the next day, I'm sure I would have had to pay a lot more than $140 (cost of antenna) to get my bike to a place where BMW roadside assistance could help me.

My '08 was built mid-February and ends in 136 and what looks like "-01" after that.

The lab has some alpha models in test. The -01 is designated for beta teste-. . . oh sorry, I mean retail customers.

That's good news. Now they can get products to market quicker by skipping the beta test step. Just combine them with retail customer. Stroke of genious. It's a win-win. Well, except for when it isn't.

I've been following this thread with some interest as one who has been waiting to possibly get an RT. I also got back from the IBA get together in Jax. recently and had a chance to talk to a lot of people and see a lot of bikes. One friend who loves his RT said he is on his 3rd FD and not happy with that. Tom Austin ( did all the write ups of the 07 event) who has been a long time BMW faithful has (gulp) made a move to Honda now. There were many who have chosen not to get a BMW due to the unresolved FD issue and now the antenna ring issue. So it seems a few are voting with their wallets, and many of these people are some of BMW's core customers. Their main concerns were 1. BMW not acknowledging issues and proper fixes 2. shrinking dealer network 3. FD and antenna ring issues (speaks to #1 and reliability concerns).

No , they're still in.

I just unplugged the harness and plugged it into the new one. I attached the plastic key to the new anrenna with a keyring so it was going through the hole, and zip tied it to the wiring on the handlebars. The regular ke was used for the ignition.

I rode 900+ miles with a lot of rough off road stuff and it worked fine like that and got me through the trip and home.

I'm taking it in to get it fixed under warranty this week.
