Absolutely not, but it shows that even the most rare part can be found...with a bit of patience, of course....

XL help needed

I know this is my first post, but I've been lurking on here for a couple of years and the info in this thread and a few others has been a lot of help.

I use to ride a DRZ400 motard, but I had to sell it 'cause we needed the money when my daughter was born. Once I had some cash again, I bought an 83 xl600 and started tidying it up for rego. The only thing left to do now is get the blinkers working and I'll have it on the road and all legal. The relay should be here this week!

here is a link to some info and pics, if any of you are keen. Feel free to ignore my ramblings, but the pics are there.

http://trackerbobber.blogspot.com/

Now, the help I need. When I first got the bike, I put in an order to xrsonly for some parts. It's only +USD100 or so. I had a friend in Hawaii who was going to pic them up and bring them back, but xrsonly delayed sending them due to a part on back order and they missed her. I did try and get them to change the address, but they sent the to Hawaii anyway. I've been trying for about a year to get them to send them to me, but no luck. I know the parcel was returned to them 'cause of the tracking info, but they don't seem to be getting my emails.

Is there anyone on here who lives near them that could drop by and chase up the order for me? I don't really know what else to do?

Anyway, thanks for all the info, and I'll keep you all posted on my bikes progress. Cheers...

Cool2

i cobbled my old fenders from my crf450r onto my 600. might black out the headlight shroud as its off a 85 and i hate all the mixed colors... anyone have a air filter element holder to sell? i bought one off ebay for almost $50 and my mom threw it out!!!!!! the part isnt listed as available on a bunch of websites that sells oem parts. i also need a master cyl and brake line, headlight frame or assembly

so far i have less than $1,000 into it but she needs alot more work (fork seals, valve cover gasket, countershaft seal, and a bunch of other stuff)

I have the master and brake line. Maybe the headlight frame.

EDIT:

I found the master. It's frozen. Found the headlight frame and lamp.

That bike is the spitting image of mine! Even looks like your running the same tyres! My fork seals are leaking too, but I just picked up a set of CRF450 forks at the post office this morning. They are going to look awsome! A much better idea than messing around with leaking fork seals

You might want to look around for an XR600 front brake. I put on on mine and it all worked quite well. I just have to bleed it a bit better, but it bolted up fine and the line seems the right length.

There are some pics here http://trackerbobber.blogspot.com/ and a whole lot of my ramblings, but feel free to ignore those.

I'm use the CRF triples and forks, whatever axel fits the forks, rims from a CBR600 and a frankenstien mix of other bits... It will be registered in the next week or two, but at the moment, it is pretty stock except for some foam pod filters.

The thing I'm hunting at the moment is the correct bearing to make the front end a bolt on fit. I have a couple of leads, but if I can get it, there will be no machine work needed for the forks. Then I'll start on the wheel/brake/speedo combo. The disc of a a 900 triumph is the 320mm and has the right bolt pattern for the CBR wheel. I'm also going to use a vapor for the speed, so that wont be hard.

To the XL experts, I'm just now starting to tear into my '87 again, and I've got a question for ya...

I found this pic a while ago, posted way back in this thread I believe...

Anywho, is this a good idea, not supporting the carburetors on the airbox side? I would love to run mine like this, and get rid of the air box shenanigans, but worried about possible intake damage... A support bracket of some sort could be easily fashioned...

i dont see any issue with hanging the carbs off the engine side...so long as the carbs have been sealing good in the boot...lots of cruisers are setup like that with ZERO issues....personaly due to fun in the mud id never run without an air box
