I've thought about it... and may yet do it a little further down the road.
I've had good results in the past putting gentle bends into plexiglass using a heat gun. -Christian

on mine it is, but they have different primary carburetors on some models of the xl600 (i.e. air mixture vs fuel mixture screw), so maybe yours is different. I'll re-verify the next time I have a chance to look at it.

Those GS Dakar Screens look great :)
I've read quite a bit about the XR fork conversions etc, but, just want to get it all clear in my head, so, if someone can confirm if this is correct that would be great :) I am 6ft 5 and am thinking a little extra height to the bike would be nice at some point plus upgrades to the suspension are always handy ;) XR600 forks 91-92 will take an xl600 wheel and axle without bearing changes etc as axle same size. The forks are longer than XL ones and you'll lose the steering lock. 41 or 43mm? Use an XR650 top clamp so that you can add the ignition barrel. XR600 rear shock will fit an xl600 swing arm and linkage and is a longer shock with remote reservoir, so, will even up the difference in height once XR600 forks are fitted. XR400 forks have the most adjustment on them. I'm guessing these are shorter than XR600 ones, maybe closer to the XL600 ones? Do they have the same axle size as an XL? Cheers Guys

A cheap cool DIY battery post from a fellow inmate I found...
It would be perfect for a budget lightweight battery conversion. ![]() Quote:

The XR6 rear shock should raise the bike something around and inch. The XR400 forks is a 43mm fork like the XR6 unit. They're about a half inch shorter than the XR6 forks and they do not share an axle. They use clamps on both sides of the axle instead of a threaded end on one side and I believe it's a larger diameter axle as well. You probably will have to change the brake caliper in addition. My plan is to run the 98-04 XR250R fork because it seems to be the same length as the XL fork, same axle part number, and it's 41mm so it should fit in any euro market XL600LM yoke set with all the factory mount provisions for headlight and gauges. I already have new brake caliper setup waiting to use with my SM rotor so that's not a problem. |

I checked. I have the California model, year '85. the B port was connected to the PCV (purge control valve) and controls it when it's running and vacuum is present. The PCV is only on california models. whenever the hose was off, the bike didn't run right. I finally removed the hose and added a rubber cap/plug that I bought at the car part store. I have the mixture/pilot screw in front/bottom. the '83 had an air screw at the rear/side of the carb.. I don't know if the '83 carb or the non-california carb has a different function of the B port.

I was unable to find my XL carbs but found a set for an XR600. They don't have anything there, so that tells me there is no float chamber vent on these. You guys are quite right. I'm sure when I find mine I'll see they have the vacuum port there too.I'm getting the float chamber vent deal confused here with a couple inline four streetbike carbs I've worked on recently. Sorry for the confusion gents.

Sounds like it has an air leak on the carb to head intake. With the engine idling spray some carb cleaner around the intake. If there is an increase of RPM them it's got a leak.
