I got it as close as it was going go. The two slash marks are still visible from the flat of the head. One is just a hair higher than the other at T1. At F1 they are flat. The difference in T1 from F1 is a gnats pube hair.

By having the cam gear not being in alignment shows that the chain has stretched. At -l l anway.

It has 14,000 on it. I bought a CDI from regulatorrectifier.com and a pulse generator from service honda.
It has a variable idle which it was doing before teardown. Carbs look great so hopefully it is the ignition pooping in the punchbowl.

The Engine Dynamics head is saaaaweet.

I might try that. I think the ignition advance is jumping around and cutting out all together intermittantly. About time to replace 27 year old parts that have been roasted in hell from time to time.

A timing light trained on the timing marks while running will show if it jumping around on timing.

Thats what worries me Steve, I'll have a look at the crank this morning, and compare tooth positions with the photo Davek posted, and thanks Davek that photo is going to be a great help. I had no idea where the original mark was in relation to the crank.

I looked at the photo you posted way back at the start and it looks from that angle that you may be almost half a tooth off to the nearest one.

I don't think that will make any difference. I know that working on Honda cars with balance shafts one tooth can be felt if you really know the car well. I have had cars come in for their second timing belt and you find that it was off since the last one and there is no complaint of vibration. Their balancer spins at a 3 to 1 ratio and has to be phased on the right third or it shakes too.

I just did a tooth count and the balancer on a 600 is 1 to 1, 41 teeth each.
