Cool, that's what I figured. Thanks man, you've always been a big help.

I ordered a new seat cover with the XL and honda emblem. When I take the seat to the upholstery shop is there any special kind of foam I should ask for? Definitely not stock KTM 2 x 4 seat foam.

A 1/2" of that snazzy memory foam. That way your ass will know where to go...

My speedometer needle is hunting quite a bit going down the highway. The drive and cable were replaced 2 years ago. Is there a way to open the speedo and lube it up?

Not really. Pull the ODO drive off of the front wheel, disconnect the cable (phillips screw) pull cable and clean/lube. Reinstall. Check the gear drive in the ODO unit.

the head cont'd

So, I took the head and bore to Santa Cruz to visit my father. We disassembled the head and discovered that I indeed (you were right Steve) need to replace my valves. So I have ordered new valves, and a new set of exhaust guides, as well as a new chain, a new Wiseco piston, and so on. So, once everything comes in.... I should be on the road again

Clarke Tank

Anybody looking for a Clarke tank for their XL600?

I really should take it out of the box to take a picture but there are so many other things to do.

Like drinking BEER.

Check and see if the valve seats are loose.

What color is it, Steve? I'd be interested if it matches the red of the '83-'84 models.

At last, l finally picked my new CDI today. Decided to move it from under the tank to under the seat to keep it cooler, so had to splice some longer wires into the harness to reach the seat. Hooked it all up, hit the starter and bingo, spark is back.
Going for a nice long ride tomorrow, no matter what!

Alright, XL Experts... I just got the bike running again, and I know these bikes are plagued by the non-pumper carb stumble, but my bike seems to be struggling for fuel. I had the carbs out and completely rebuilt them a couple years ago, but the bike sat since.

I know this bike isn't going to come close to my KTM 690, but I do remember it being quite powerful. It's got the stock jetting and I'm at around 600 ft elevation, what would be a suggested starting point on jetting?

This is a California bike... do I need to service the evap system?

Should I run any carb cleaner through the system? Seafoam perhaps?

I have heard about bending the tang back on the carb linkage to delay the secondary cutting in, and I'm about to try that first...

Any other ideas?

Leave the linkage alone. Go up one size each on the pilot and main jet of the primary carb. I actually made my secondary carb hit sooner than later.

Thanks. Should I mess with the clips at all? Everything is currently in the stock setup except for the pilot screw...

If you have a needle jet with slots leave the clip in the center position. Usually #3.
