Registering a bike

Does anyone know the short answer to this Question.

I am looking at buying a bike and it has $450 back fee's at DMV.
If I only ride it off road can I get a green sticker without paying those back fees.
Thanks, I am looking for a quick answer as I want the bike and don't want to make a hasty decision.
Thanks Hop-Sing

Since it goes by VIN, I highly doubt it.....

Why not just deduct the $450 off purchase price?

Ask yourself a question... Do you wanna buy a bike from someone that doesn't pay his bills ? $10-$15 he could have non-oped it if he was broke at the time.

What else didn't he get to ? Oil changes... valve adjustments... ?????

Move on my friend... find another deal.

Last year I bought a plated XR600 with back fee's as it was apart in the guys garage. When I was told of the fee's I told the DMV person that the bike had been apart and garaged the whole time. He handed me a form that I wrote a short statement on and I signed it. Away went the back fee's. This will only work if the bike has not had a ticket of any kind in the time it was out of reg.

I've had the same results as mcma111. Complete the DMV's Statement of Facts clearly articulating the bike has not been on the road, was in storage or just not used prior to your purchase. I also put that it's not my responsibility to pay back fees accrued while I didn't own the bike.

I get a little more detailed and wordy AND I send it to SAC so somebody who just wants it off of their desk pushes DELETE on the back fees. I also include a copy of their calculator page with the back fees crossed out and I include a check for the amount without fees.

I've done 4 or 5 bikes this way and never had a problem. Sometimes I miscalculate and I get a request for a few more bucks (less than $10 ) so I send it in. Done.

I sort of agree with "what else since he didn't pay his reg" but some folks just don't know you can go non-op or time just slips away and they forget.

thanks

O.K. Thanks everyone. This is a old Trials bike that I want. They are hard to come by. I really don't need to register it but would like to. I offered him the $450 less and he turned me down. cant blame him as that's 1/3 of his asking price. I need another bike like I need another hole in my head. But I try to not limit myself.

I can see its nice to register it,but most Trials events are done on privately owned property these days? If I really wanted it I would get it and let the chips fly where they may.

(whats his ph #?,thanks!)

I was told that if it has not been registered in 7 years, then the back fee's automatically go away...??
Maybe buy it and wait..if it's close?
