I think he's referring to the cabin portion of the old lookout tower. I had heard that the Forest Service was going to remove it, leaving only the observation platform, but hadn't seen it actually done.

The lookout is on the aptly named Bald Mountain, just east of Shaver Lake. Accessable by the also aptly named Bald Mountain OHV route. I'll assume you know how to get to Shaver Lake, so this will just show from 168 to the trailhead:

The trail is popular with 4x4 vehicles, and offers a nice view of Shaver Lake. Watching Shaver's 4th of July fireworks from up there is also popular.

my summer vacation

Hey guys I think this link will get you to my ride tale. Contains pics, and a link to an online album. I hope it works.

Link worked, though the pics in the Google Doc didn't seem to be very good quality. Is that a problem on my end, or with the Google Docs? They seem fine in the online album.

Sounds like a great trip. More difficult offroad than we're up for, but still an area worth exploring.

The reason the pics in the doc are poor quality is because if I used higher quality the doc would be enormous in size and take forever to download.

Nice write up & pics thanks for posting that

A couple of us are hoping to get to Moab in April next year, probably around the first week of the month before the week long Easter jeep jamboree. We'll most likely be driving & will trailer the bikes there....although if someone wanted to ride there & back I might be persuaded to do so as well

If anyone is interested, I'm sure we'll start putting plans together in the next month or 2.

Plating an old dirtbike. anyone done it?

I was given a very low mileage, running, Suzuki DR125 (marked Z model on the info plate). I was wondering if it would be worth trying to get it to street legal status in california or is the requesite hoop jumping just way too bad?
