A PAIR OF 950s TACKLE THE FREEWAY LOOP!!!
THE FREEWAY LOOP ![]() Those three words can evoke feelings of Joy or of Terror. There is no middle ground. No, Take it or Leave it. After trying it you will either Love it or Hate it. Pretty dramatic, huh? Typically I don't send out open invitations for this trail cause in the past it didn't turn out so good. Yesterday six invitations went out to a select group of riders and I got one taker. Jonz on his brand new-to-him Super Enduro! Jonz is a long time FWL Lover but he had not ridden his SE yet and was gonna learn about his new ride on THE FREEWAY LOOP! ![]() Jonz wanted to warm up a bit before hitting The Loop, so we played around on some hills first. [IMG][/IMG] Looks like he's got it figured out. ![]() ![]() ![]() OK, LET'S RIDE! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This hill is early on in the ride and is often the turn around point for the unprepared. Not today. ![]() About 7 years ago I went over the bars on this hill. It wasn't this well groomed back then. ![]() Why would somebody go to the trouble to drive up the freeway, cut the barbed-wire fence, and throw a bunch of boards in the trail? ![]() I told Jonz I would help but somebody's gotta take the pictures. ![]() That's better. ![]() ![]() The conditions were ideal. 65degrees, no dust, and ample traction made us feel like we couldn't go wrong. ![]() Jonz was amazed at how well his big ol' 950 was handling The Loop. All the sections were easy! ![]() [IMG][/IMG] Untill.... ![]() Remember this? ![]() This spot has got his number. And it at least knows my zip code. ![]() No bad Ju-Ju on the 2nd run. ![]() Time for the "Waterfall" ![]() Somebody piled some rocks, making it much easier than usual. Jonz got up it with a dab ![]() I like this arroyo. ![]() That's it for the South side. The Rest Area (half way point) is just over this hill, where we go under the freeway and take a little break before heading back down on the dreaded NORTH SIDE!!! ![]() Having made it to the Rest Area we were tired but glad to be there, but now it was time for THE NORTH SIDE. ![]() This is the technical side of the Loop. Non-stop UPDOWNTURNSLIDEUPSTOPDOWNGOTURNUPUPUPDOWNSLIDEGO for 15 miles. [IMG][/IMG] ![]() No matter how tired or distracted Jonz is he always remembers to render a proper ADV salute. [IMG][/IMG] ![]() ![]() ![]() Gas it out the wash ![]() But miss the fence! ![]() I love this trail! ![]() This was taken after I put my drive chain back on the sprocket. I love this trail! ![]() Most of the climbs on the north side have no run-up to them ![]() Traction was good but not that good. ![]() and turning around is not a option so then it's time to bushwack with your 450lb dirt bike to look for a way out. ![]() ![]() 1st gear pinned on the staights. ![]() "I think I can hit it from here" ![]() This is fun. I love this trail! [IMG][/IMG] I wonder what they talk about when we're not around. ![]() Jonz kept saying, "I can't believe how good it handles!" ![]() I love this trail ![]() My fuel light is on so we cut a couple miles off the ride to jump on the powerline road. We parted ways at the Chevron. I took the freeway till I got cold, then I jumped into the creek for about seven miles. ![]() That took me almost all the way home. Fun Stuff! ![]() And it warmed me up pretty good. ![]() ![]() So now you guys that couldn't make it can see what you missed. Thanks for riding the Freeway Loop with me Jonz. Congrats on the new scoot.

That looks like a ton of fun. I love the bikes, nice windscreen on the adv and auxilary tank on the SE.
Is all that just public ground that your allowed to ride on or is it like somewhere that no one goes or cares? |

BLM and Sheriffs have been giving tickets near the start. Very few people use this trail so maybe they'll leave us alone. |
