R100R rear shock (horror)
Just spotted that the rear mudguard on my R100R has been chewed by the rear tyre, I am think that it has been going on before I bought the bike.
Earlier BMW's with twin rear shocks do not suffer from this problem but the later mono's geometry caused a problem. Given my use of heavy luggage for touring and my fat arse, I guess that the rear shock either needs replacing or a much heavier pre-load (the cheap option). If the answer is replacement, what aftermarket shocks are recommended? |

Kinda delayed response but just to add to the data base .. a loose battery means that the battery will push against the mudguard, causing it to rub against the wheel and when you go at 80 mph ........

Add this one to the horror:
I know of a K75 that had the rear shock mount point fail. At speed. Rider had broken bones. Probably a feeling of "...what the @$@!^%..." too, as he bounced down the road. If you love your Airhead or early K-Bike, take a hard critical look at them every 6 months or so, nose to tail. Metal fatigue is a real thing. Parts get loose. Be mindful. |
