Ok, I think I'm starting to crack

Now I have 3 sources of photos to coordinate so I think forward progress is going to be even slower!

Ok now, where was I? Oh yeah, I'm hungry; where's the PopTarts (tm)?

Do enough of this:

And you will eventually get this:

But the road construction is most always good; you get to talk to people and hear their stories and take a break. It's all good!

Just some more scenary shots...

Eilison AFB outside of Fairbanks, AK.

Between Fairbanks and Fox, AK. The beginning of the Dalton Highway, aka, the Haul Road! Let me tell you, that while the road is paved, it should be name The Haulass Road! Good, fast pavement that allowed you to test your limits

Brauhausbier sucking down a local brew. Do you thinnk he's happy?

Chowtime in Fox!

We hung out here for quite awhile, waiting for Dennis. I think he got lost or something.

Finally! Dennis shows up!
A lesson here: If you're going on a trip, call your bank/creditcard company or whatever, in advance and let them know what you're up to. This was the first time on the trip that I broke out the cellphone and I had a message from my credit union. The automated message wanted to know if all of the strange charges I'd accrued in the last 6 days or so were authorized. Good, I appreciate that, but I had to suffer through an automated query that inumerated each and every charge before I had an opportunity to press "1" to say they were authorized. This took about 20 minutes!

OK, let me make sure I have this right. This border is secured by the same people that make me come to the airport two hours early, so they can frisk me before I get on a plane?

Dalton Highway between Fox and the Yukon River

More good-road goodness.

I like how the roads in Alaska are called "highways". Bring it on!

It was odd how, out of the blue, the dirt road would turn into asphalt, and just as surprising when the asphalt would suddenly end.

Pay attention, we'll meet these guys again at the Arctic Circle.

The bridge over the Yukon River. It was a little disconcerting to cross. Who ever heard of potholes on a wooden bridge!?

Yukon River

This is the Yukon River and the gas station. It was closed when we got there, but we had enough gas to continue on.
There is a little pile of gas cans by the pump, free for the taking. I guess it's kind of like the airport where there's a big pile of lighters around the ashtray. You leave one behind when you take off, and you pick one up when you arrive. These are left here by people who have come and gone and don't want to pack the can with them.

And off we ride, into the perpetual sunset.

Yep, this is how I felt about our Mexico trip report. I was being hassled to post pics and two others were already posting. Everyones on a diff schedule, makes for some disjointed reading. Needs a disclaimer to your readers, go drink 5 or 6 beers, then sit down and read, It'll all make more sense then

Mayhem at the Arctic Circle!

It definitely feels like some sort of accomplishment to reach the Arctic Circle! Spirits are high with talk of the ride, and the distance we've covered, sprinkled with wide-eyed talk of bears and what we need to do to avoid becoming a bear turd.

Sorry Tom, I guess we got here first, I don't see your initials.
You will meet Tom later.

Yup, my pulse is steady, I'm ready to go on stage now and do my impression of the Lord of the Dance!

I like this picture so much that I made it my Smugmug bio photo. I think it will attract the chicks

Although, this was a close second

Check out the mileage at the Arctic Circle, creepy, hmm?

Here are two hardcore bikers that left Tierra del Fuego 18 months ago on bicycles! Petra kommt aus Der Schweiz und Dirk kommt aus Deutschland. They are on the tour to raise awareness for Doctors Without Borders. Check out their webpage at http://www.pipdip.de/index.html Two great people and it was a pleasure to meet them.

But while we were standing around talking, there was a slight noise to our left that interupted us. WTF could that be:

The wind blew one of the KLR's over into its neighbor, knocking it down, too.
Funny thing was, when the bikes fell over, the owners simply casually strolled over as if this was a daily occurance. We were more excited than they were!

Stick a fork in me

I'm done for the day.
This weekend sometime I should be able to get to the rest of the ride to Prodhoe Bay. I'll have two videos that I'd like to share, but they're too large for my Smugmug account. Anyone have any ideas?
