Indeed, took a bit of wiggling and removal of the return spring, but it came out. Cases split, problem identified as worn dogs/slots and pitted teeth, now comes trying to find parts at a reasonable price.

Does anyone have any special sites ?? Babbits looks ok in US, the NZ shops will likley rip me off and blame import etc

I had not known of partzilla, and the substantial savings is appreciated.

Have you painted your bodywork / frame? Any pictures?

I have ordered some decals from CA, FL, and some were in the UK. The 125 and 250 both retain the OEM paint schemes and look good, but with the 650, requiring significant body work, is headed toward a modified Rothmans style paint scheme to follow the bikes unique body lines. If painted white the frame will have HARD clear applied as stone chips would be hideous on this color.

Pulled the trigger on the known items required for this build. (spent more than the bike cost) The bodywork is first on my list as the tabs need fixed or made prior to disassembly of the bike with the correct fitment verified.

Skapegoat Your engine guards look worthwhile and a set was purchased to insure my "soon to be repaired" bodywork stays intact.

While waiting on the Plastifix to arrive, I sanded the OEM windshield up to 2000 grit and rubbed it out. Now all the new scratches will be mine!

The crash bars are made by Hepco and Becker.
They were not as perfect a fit as I thought they would be and took some persuading to get on.
Once on they were solid although I had to grind a section that was touching the exhaust.

They were ordered for my specific year 1993 and said that year on the package.
Thought they would go on easier.

The guard I ordered are also Hepco Becker. The ad said fits up to '94. My experience with multi item weldments is that the fixturing needs to be very stout, and the part needs to cool before removing it from the positioning fixture. Excess material and time is money, so perfection is rare on aftermarket items. My 25 year old frame may also be suspect. We will see once the guard arrives.

The Plastifix kit was delivered today. I have used other epoxies with mixed results. Trying this for building missing bits.

That looks like a good solution to making tabs. I just used auto body filler, then sanded and drilled them out. I'm not sure how they'll hold up, but so far so good.

I've used plastic PVC sprinkler glue in the past to repair my fairings. Makes a permenant bond. Tabs can be made as well. The stuff is cheap and available at any hardware store. Just grove the crack or the area to be repaired apply the glue and leave it alone for 24 hours. After the repair has been made, I use a flexable body filler to smooth out surfaces that are to be painted. Works great.

The Hepco Becker guards were delivered two days ago. My brother said that I should open the packages as they are received. A practice we emphasize at work, incomming inspections, but I get lazy at the house. So it was opened.



I need to eat my words. The guards are produced and finished VERY WELL!
No tool marks were found, crimped ends and formed tubes are flawless
MIG welds are perfect with out spatter or finish grinding
Satin black powder coat
>Smooth, no orange peel as we sometimes receive at work
>100% coverage, no thin spots or hanger shadows with hole IDs painted
Even the 3D sticker is applied straight

Often thought about some of the H + B crashbars for my Dommie but been a bit put off by the price and whether in reality they would actually offer much protection or just fold up ? I guess many people have them just for the rugged look ? ( not a jibe ..I like the look myself!)

I was looking into buying these crash bars also. I have the H & B rear rack, and I was impressed by the quality. But do any of the fairings or major engine parts hit the ground during a drop? I thought just the side panel would hit, and it seems like it would hit with or without the crash bars. My main concern is damaging the fairings because they're impossible to find and a pain in the ass to repair!

The engine guard tubing roughly measures 2mm wall x 20mm OD, so it is pretty stout.

How much protection is offered I guess depends on speed, terrain (rocks, logs, stumps...), and the angle of attack of the obstacle.

Having lowsided and rag dolled the NX250 into the woods at 70 mph, it was 3 months to straighten and fix everything. No guards - not even hand guards

I am fixng this new to me NX650 body ONCE. Items Gathered



I also have this coming my way to protect the rear end.

I like the rear guards/rack combo. Ability to carry more stuff plus protecting the bike is great. Also cheaper than just buying every fairing piece for the bike
