Weeelllll, it was not smooth sailing.

The first 3 days were 600-700 miles days cross country towards Yellowstone, Basically a routine of get up early, get on the road, play with the traffic on the freeways, 15 min stop for gas every 2-3 hrs, find the camp ground / hotel, sleep, repeat. Mostly in 95-102 deg temperature.

After 3 days the first melt down occurred. "This is rediculous!!" "I didn't want to come on this &^%$ing trip anyway!!!" etc etc.
It seemed like a good idea to wear a cup at night, just in case, this risk of losing vital bits in the middle of the night was becoming horribly real.

As soon as we started seeing mountains and got off the freeway things got better. When we got to Yellowstone I was back in favor.

Things continued to be positive until we reached the Dalton Highway, not so much on the way up, but in the way back (after the rain)....... I was NOT the flavor of the month.

The stop in Talkeetna was very positive, good time had by all concerned.

The Top the World Highway........ time to start sleeping with a cup again.

Overall, I should have taken the pace slower and allowed for longer breaks. I doubt Kathy will EVER sign up for an off road trip again, but twisties in mountain areas, with wildlife, thats is a definite winner.

4 weeks in Mexico and the wife was ready to kill me.

As far as your wifes ability to handle the dirt, mud, and gravel did you take a course or just surprise her with it when you got there? How did she prepare (riding skills) for the challenge?

Well... that was probably a mistake too.... she has been riding for a number of years, but nothing on dirt / gravel
