Some pics from the road

Here's one from Utah's west desert along the Pony Express Trail. Hot and dusty but a great dual-sport ride.

A typical meal

This how a typical meal looked, beer battered fish....I think I've had enough fish for two lifetimes.

I give you a huge applause, 1 for making the trip, 2 for doing it on a TW200! Way to go! Did anything break and how did the tires hold up for 6,000 miles?

Question Response

Thanks for the comments.

As far as making a trip on this on a bike like the TW, outside of a few 70 mph roads in Nevada, the TW was basically up to the challenge.

Would a few more cc's or horses have helped? Absolutely.

Are a few more cc's or horses necessary? Nope.

The advantages of a small bike:

1) you can easily go places that the big bikes have difficulty with

2) gas mileage can be pretty good

3) when you fall down its easy to get up

4) they are very easy to work on

5) I really like a bike with a low seat height

Disavdantages:

1) Comfort.....maybe??

2) Speed (but how fast do you have to go?)

I have to admit that I'd love to own a bigger bike. What I'd really like is the TW in 350 or 400cc. Low seat height, good fuel economy, enough hp to hold the speed limit under any conditions, and mechanically simple. I knew when I left that the TW was going to have difficulty maintaining speed limits in places so that was not a let down. I simply pulled off the side of the road and let folks go by that were in a hurry. Other than a little more hp the only other modifications to the TW that would have been nice would have been a gel seat or something a little more comfortable, maybe a throttle lock, a windshield of some sort, and more fuel capacity in the tank. Of these items all except the added horsepower can be done to the TW with relative ease.

The only mechanical problem was the retaining nut issue, and I'm assuming that was my fault when I did the valve adjustment earlier that week.

The front tire is about wore out. I have another to replace it and will need to in the very near future. The rear tire still looks good and I anticipate another 2-3000 miles out of it.

That's about it. The bike really did perform beyond my expectations, it didn't rain as much as I thought it would (although I wouldn't have wanted any more than I got), and the "hardships" of the trip were nothing beyond anyone's capabilities.

thanks,
