So where can I get USFS maps? Every time I stop at a ranger station, they're closed. I know I can download maps piecemeal, but I'd rather have it in one section.

REI stores carry USFS maps. Sport Chalets sometimes have them.

Found license plate

found a plate about half way from the maple springs/main divide interchange on the way up to the peak... it was face down burried in the dirt.sat it off the side of the road in plain site and it was still there on my way back... I went to turn it in down at the station but nobody was home...if you can give me the plate number i will ship it to ya... If not I will just send it back to the dmv.

Entered Maple Springs gate this afternoon. Beautiful ride today, got on the dirt around 1:00pm. Nice cool day, though a bit smoggy out there obscuring the view. A lot of cars, bicycles and pedestrians. Surprisingly few motorcyclists, I think I saw one.

The Franko Map is a good map for the roads and trails. Can get at any bike store or REI.

I rode Skyline - 74 on Sunday, I exited the dirt at the southern end about 1pm.

Super cool being above the clouds, nice and sunny at the top, a few patches of snow on and beside the road in the shaded parts. Great riding weather.
I saw 4 other DS bikes, got passed by one (think it was a 400?) (and 3 or 4 minibikes), I was on my Super Enduro 950.

Rode it yesterday...quite a bit of snow on the trails in the shaded areas, but it seems to be melting fast. Knobbie tires for sure! I have some cool pics but am having some uploading difficulties...

Maple gate was open, North Main Divide gate was closed, Wildomar OHV was closed and the weather was chilly! It was so great to ride just above the clouds, we didn't see anyone else up there...

Found a little bit of snow left. First time taking the big bike up to peak. Much different then the XR650R
Very happy the way the big beast handled up there...

Congrats on taking the big bike up ... even with street tires the GS Adventure is a very capable bike. Wait till you put some nobbies on it, surprising difference off road.

Maple springs, and Main Divide gates both open today. My first time up. Crazy windy at the top. Saw a KTM on my way up and two mountain bikers. Other than that it was empty up there.

I think I am done with the CNF for a while...too much traffic and too many idiots..I now just basically go mountain biker bowling every time i go.. Idiots can not stay on their side of the road and like to ride 3+ wide down the road..its a ROAD obey the laws. and common sense ....F'em....and dont get me started on the cool offroad/prerunner/4X4 crowd..

Done and done...went and road the SBNF last weekend in some awesome snow/slush conditions with waist deep freezing water thrown in...EPIC shit compared to the CNF where three drops of rain shuts the whole thing down ..and the best part...only saw 2.....2 people all day.

Anyone going up Maple Springs this Saturday (3/10/2012)? I'm a total noob and would like to follow someone who won't go too fast. I've never been up there and don't want to get lost. I've been riding Trabuco Canyon fire road up to Holy Jim trail head just fine. That's all the dirt riding I've done so far.
