Would you be camping? At one of the campgrounds by the 74?

He's referring to Kennedy Meadows in the southern Sierra.

It is open already? Snow usually clears in June.

Laugh Bumming me out

Need to stop snooping on this site. Can't ride for at least 6 months, just really started getting fun and along comes a torn labrum.

My buddy will be up there this weekend ( on my bike) keeping it limber ;)

Itching to get out again looks like I will be fall.

Keep it safe and on the roads ;)

Guys I need help figuring out what kind of tires I should replace as mine is starting to run out. I am running a DRZ400 S with Dunlop D606 and they worked great for a thousand miles or so but I am looking for something less knobby and more durable for asphalt. I have been riding a lot of street to get to the trailheads. So far I have just been riding jeep trails and all around Trabuco Canyon. Most riding is done in asphalt, loose gravel, some sand and a little bit of mud after it rains. I would say the riding is 50/50 at this point.

My current list I have in mind are:

Perelli Pro (F)
Pirelli MT43 (R)

MT21 (F)
D606 (R)

Shink244 (F/R)

Kenda K760 (F/R)

I'm not getting Dunlop 606's again for my bike. I went through 20-30% of the tire in one day. I bought a dual purpose bike, not a dirt bike, so I'm going back to IRC GP-1's or maybe the Shinto/Kenda versions of it.

After riding hard with some of the crew here, it is quite apparant if I want to ride hard on the trails, I need a lighter, more nimble bike. Lugging 450+ lbs gets tiring, especially for a noob like myself. Sure, on the trail I will get left in the dust, but while other people are loading their bikes into their pick-ups or on trailers, I'm riding home.

You have to give to get in our world, and most everyone I know who loves riding, would dearly love to own at least 3 bikes, one trail, one dual purpose, and one street cruiser or tourer.

All that being said, I will be at Cook's Corner tonight at 6:30 pm if anyone would like to ride a bit. Grinch, I've been after you to show you a few trails, you up for 2 hours (or so) of riding tonight?

if you want to ride hard on dirt, stick with knobbies.

if you want to cruise the pavement, get some aggressive street tires.

and riding home is great if you weren't riding that hard off-road.

i did that a few times out to the desert and back and had enough. and riding straight Interstate highways a boring. and wear out your knobbies.

I hear that! As nice as everyone is, I hate making them wait for me when I'm the only big(ger) bike in the group. What are you riding?

Don't be so quick to write them off!

The first bit of 606's wears quickly, but after the initial burn, the rest seems to last OK, I reckon.

I get ~3000 miles out of the rear on a KLR and I'm not exactly skinny.

Yea I run 606s and get about 3 k out of the rear. Fronts last almost double of rear. Always air up for the pavement ride. 30 psi front and rear on my dr650. A worn 606 is still worlds better on dirt than anything else. I run my rear until its completely worn smooth to get Max mileage out of it.
