Here we go, a little action, controversy and BS.

Never thought I would ignite such good discussion. Who woulda thought me almost getting killed by a punk would get this thread moving again. Freakin "A". Man all I wanted to do is warn the kid there were 4 hikers just around a few more corners and to slow down since you couldn't see more than 10 feet ahead, he then proceeded to use profanity and thats when I snapped. Sorry, my ears are a little sensitive until I have a buzz on.

I certainly don't have 30 years on that hill since I am only 40. Rob- your dating yourself on that one but since you can ride like a man your OK in my book. But I have been a local since 96 and have never had such a close call. Glad I was riding like puss or I would have been a hood ornament.

For die hards it is a little on the sucky side but it is our back yard. I think the night rides are the way to go just to get out of the house, have some laughs with friends and twist the throttle. Way safer and past curfew for our future desert racer wannabes. Friday night rides need to keep happening as it is good fun. Where did everybody go? Seems only a few select nightowls even make the ride anymore.

Idyllwild I do have many years on since I grew up in palm desert. Not sure if you can call it better than CNF but it is fun. Lame thing is 5 out of 10 times I get flats for some odd reason. There are a few good single track lines but for the most part it is exact to CNF just less people and a few more legal trails so I guess that is a good thing.

What I or any other ADV'er doesn't need is that do gooder "Dad" type who comments on how we should act and what is right and wrong according to their stinky ass. Go be a good dad to your kids and leave us adults alone. If you don't have kids then go get some. You know who you are.

Hey Bob, remember this? Utah 2008.

Jims Dakar in the foreground with some retarded looking guy, then my Dakar and Bob's 690.

Oooooooooooooh the views..........I think Bob is going to push Jim off.

This one ? Low - Ri - Der..............Solo trip to Utah and busted down in Moapa. Had to afro-engineer a shock using my tennis shoes to get my ass 30 miles out of the desert and to the Hiway after my shock linkage grenaded on some whoops. You can actually see a Nike tennis shoe between my swing arm and gas tank in this photo, along with the busted linkage hanging off the bottom.

Local rides

For me...I live in the middle between saddleback peak and Idyllwild.

So for me... I almost alway choose to do roll out through Hemet and up to Idyllwild.

I have ridden most everything up there and know it well.
I have even ridden on the Sobboa reservation which can get you shot..!!
No shit !! you may get shot if you ride there. I dont recommend it.

But for anyone who doesnt know the area here is a clip.
This is a green sticker legal to ride black diamond trail.
The fireroads are well groomed and have almost no rocks on them unlike CNF.
I dont think anyone on a Dakar will be able to do this trail.

If you dont watch the whole thing just watch the last minute or two.
The soil is great up there and after a rain it is as fun as anywhere I know of.

That area is the back basin of CL.
It's extremely rocky and will just shred up your tires.
But I go out there from time to time.

The last time I did a CNF night ride I road through that area all the way to downtown LE.

It can cut out some pavement on the way out to a ride.
Some guys like it.
