I don't think motos should be in county parks, I don't have a big problem with them in National Forest. My problem is that they don't fix the damage they do but in remote places I ride trails would have been long gone without moto riders keeping them it is a double edged sword but I swing to the side of supporting the motos. Downieville is moto central and nobody seems to mind, it fact it would not be there without the motos...remember our roots folks.

I have always heard motos way before I see them and have never had any close calls.

I think the problems is that Cleveland National Forest is just too close to too many people and there may not be room for all users groups...something has to give and the motos lost this one. It is too bad that the Forest Service does not expand trails to service the recreational needs of all groups and the ever expanding population in So-Cal. That is the real problem...not attacking and calling the police on other user groups.

You guys need to get over the 'our trail', they don't belong here - mentality.

1) Motos were on these trails long before MTBs even existed. In many cases, there would be no trail if motos had not cut it years ago. Think I'm kidding? Telonics in Laguna is one such example...cut on a trials bike going up years ago. Then the high and mighty come in and say no more and shut the originators down.

2) Adopt the shared trail mentality. As a MTBer, do you like it when the hikers and equestrians come off as if you don't belong there? Can't we all just get along?

3) I MTB and moto. I will always prefer a moto to come barelling down or up on me as I can hear them coming. You couldn't count on both hands the number of MTB head-ons on San Juan trail on any given day.

4) STT is not even in the Nat Forest system of trails. They can put all the signs up they want but if you really want to go there, the trail has been closed from the gate/rail about a mile in for years ALL forms of traffic. SO MTB's are just as complicit as motos.

5) This motos ruin the trail thought process is just simply ignorance. Yes, a moto can cause a rut on a steep climb but I'll assure you, STT is no such climb! Further, as one poster mentioned, we should be thanking the moto guys for maintaining the trails in many cases. Want an example? How about Jordan Peak trail near Camp nelson. Used to be a bitchin MTB trail. Then they shut it down to motos years backin the 90's and now it's a wasteland of downfall, completely unrideable. The moto guys were the only ones working it because they don't have the luxury of hoping off and portaging over deadfall. Want some other less known examples...Cannell trail, Just Outstanding, and others.

I've been MTB and motoing Cadillac, STT, upper and lower Joplin, and the luge for longer than some of the noobs here have even been on this planet. Moto has always on off-peak days/hours and always with the utmost of trail etiquette and courtesy. It takes all my willpower to ignore the few MTB's I do come across who feel compelled to yell and scream at me.

Please, next time you want to mount your high horse about no motos on 'my' trail, please consider how you feel when the hikers and equestrians give you the same treatment.

A narrow track of dirt through the forest isn't a trail -- it's an attitude.

The bottom line is this, this guy had a hissy fit, acted like a 12 year old girl, took her toys and went home. Did I mention he left his buddy on the mountain four hours from home. To fucking funny, grow up.
I was kinda pissed about the being slow part.... I thought that was my title and I don't want anybody steppin on it!

Wondering if you guys ever take total noobs on your rides or whether we're unwelcome dead weight. Just got my 1st moto - 08 KTM690e and looking for some rides in the LA/OC area to learn the ropes. I wouldn't say I'm totally useless. I've been MTBing for 25 years, DH, XC and I race cars so I've got a certain affinity for 2 wheels, risk and speed. Just can't afford to get too banged up at my age so I'm definitely not looking for trouble. Doesn't mean I won't find it

Anyway, sounds like you're gearing up for a ride this week, but I couldn't sift through enough of this thread to figure out what's planned - go figure. Sounds like a fun group though.

See ya maybe

We all were noobs at one point so I don't mind anyone joining on a ride.

new guys

I was the new guy not to long ago. Seemed to fit right in with this group. There's only about four to five of us that actually show up anyway. The rest just like to monitor what we are doing and are there in "spirit".

We ride the night shift. no specified time just depends on how late you want to stay out. We all kind of straggle up at our own pace and decide what to do when we get there.
