I only ever did the Vision Quest but that was maybe 10 years ago. 2nd and a 3rd IIRC. Tell Chris Emilio says hi. I was a member of the Warriors society for a while, did a bunch of trail maintenance with them and other groups. That was when I was doing a lot of hiking. Really started doing a lot of road racing (bicycle) around then and didn't keep up with the req's to stay in the Warrior's society after that.

I don't race much anymore other than the OTH short course XC series at Irvine Lake. Spending most of my time with the race cars and running my business so less time to train for bike racing.

Always wanted an enduro bike and kept putting it off. Finally pulled the trigger and am having a blast. Despite the mini-melodrama, everybody I have met on the trails has been cool and I'm having a blast.

Bigger tank, better spares kit, few tweaks, flat changing practice and I'll be ready for some longer rides the 690 is really built for. I have a good friend, expert rider, that does Baja a lot and rides all over the US. He's been trying to drag me along on one for years. These rides in CNF feel like training and warm up for something bigger.

welcome to the Asylum that is ADVrider.

when you get bored of CNF, come up to LA area and ride Rowher Flats and Los Padres National Forest and do some desert rides when it cools down in the fall.

after getting a dual sport bike, snowboarding, street bike riding, and other activities fell to the way side. this sport is great and you meet a lot of great folks that just wanna explore and have a good time.

come up to WMRS in August. there are plenty of riding for all types up there. noobs and experts. hook up with guys with similar bikes and riding capabilities.

I'm gay and a homophobe who just talks shit on everyone. I can't ride for shit but will rip it up anywhere I go and beat you all to the top of CNF while also being the last one there. I smoke tons of pot but never get high while I'm drinking, riding and shooting heroine and guns all at the same time. I love Razr like a priest loves a choir boy, but not in a gay way and think Dale should be our lucky Pierre while HB films it and jungle can be my fluffer any day of the week. Plus, I'm a closet fascist, communist, vegan republican liberal who sits in my closet secretly thinking of ways to outlaw all guns but mine.

So fuck all you dickwads. Shut the up and ride.

Not Sure If Serious..

By your posts here, I'm guessing you're not a noob (like me).

For any lurkers here that are noobs:
Yup. The groups are mellow and tend to wait at junctions.

As far as the terrain, a noob on 80/20 tires (mostly street) on a big bike (950+) might have their hands full on some of the rocky, silty downhills on main divide. All of the connectors; Maple Springs, Indian Truck trail, first 5 miles of Main Divide from hwy 74 are fairly tame and doable on a big bike with 80/20 tires. Once you're past that on Main Divide it's more suitable for more dirt oriented tires and thumpers unless you're an expert rider on a big bike with street tires or are OK paddling. You'll mostly see 400-500cc thumpers on at least 50/50 tires when you get close to the peak where Main Divide has some steeper, looser and rockier sections.
