CA_Strom you'll be fine i rode my NX up there a bit with Kenda K761's

and had no problem..just ez on the gas and ride a good line.

Yeah, but you're a speedway guy. So you're used to sliding around corners.

i ride third division people like to watch us cause we dont know what the hell where doing.

heres a ok slide at Costa Mesa...thats me in the front..i actually won this heat race..but do note the piss poor arm positioning..RIGHT ELBOW UP!!!

I've ridden my DL650 up there several times on Avon Distanizias. There are some rocky places where a Strom will bottom out. It's ridable and mostly not too hard, but in places you need to pick a good line and have good control. The worst section is probably along North Main Divide between Maple Springs road and the First Peak (Very Rocky). The rocky sections are mostly short. Most of the roads are hardpacked dirt with a little loose gravel or DG on top.

FYI a guy on the DL650 group burned out his clutch up there from slipping it too much. He was unfamiliar with dirt riding and could not turn around on a hill, so he tried to keep going. You won't need to slip it all the time, just around the rocky parts and a few tight turns.

I took my F650 up CNF with Anakees the first day I had my license. My error was I grabbed too much front brake and went down - with no warning. I returned to the scene of the crime a couple weeks later and rode slower and focused on the rear brake. No problem. Lowering the tire pressure seemed to help, too.

Third Division, hell yeah! You're right, it's a lot more fun to watch third division races than the second and first div guys who're consistent. It's a whole new race with each lap!

Make sure you have a key for the gate at Skyline Rd or ride down to Bedford Mtrwy off of the 15. I rode up Maple Springs Rd from the OC side yesterday and rode to Skyline and the gate was locked. I looked under the Skyline gate and saw all of the padlocks latched. I was surprised to see this as all other gates on the mtn were open. At 4 Corners we went up to Santiago Peak then turned around and rode to Beek's Place and then Skyline. On the way down Santiago Peak a sheriff's helicopter circled around us a few times but then bailed when he probably saw our license plates.

Im thinking about heading up to CNF/Santiago from my place in da LBC. Ive got a plated KTM 300EXC but this looks to be a perfect place for my Transalp. So I was wondering what would be a good starting point to hop on the trails and is there a "suggested loop" or ride I may want to check out. Also who is the gate keeper that has these "keys" you speak of? Ive never ridden up there but have been watching the thread here... Looks like fun!

Unless I'm mistaken there are only a handful of entrances to CNF. Southwest (Maple Springs Rd), North (Skyline, Bedford, or Indian Truck), and Southeast (Ortega Hwy). And Skyline is locked right now. The phone number to get access is here: Skyline to Skyline Truck Trail - Riverside County Road, access is controlled by a gate, call county at 951-955-1814 for access and a key.
